I am truly inspired by independent Australian singer/songwriter and producer Hayden Calnin, his music featured on renown TV shows such as Suits, Parenthood, So You Think You Can Dance USA, The 100, Teen Wolf, MTV’s Awkward, Meet The Fosters and for the UK & Japanese official trailers for Oscar winning film, ‘Room’ and had The Vampire Diaries lead actor/director, Paul Wesley, reach out to him on Twitter as a fan, personally requesting to use the track on an episode he was directing in the final season of The Vampire Diaries

He’s sold out shows in Australia and the UK, to packed rooms in Paris and Berlin, had the pleasure of touring with the likes of The Antlers, Matt Corby, Brooke Fraser, Mat McHugh, Missy Higgins and so many more!

Amongst the array of local bands Howler has paid homage to, Melbourne artist Hayden Calnin takes the cake, leaving the audience mesmerizingly captivated throughout the entire night.

Calnin knows how to draw in a crowd, The electronic folk singer launched the new hit ‘White Night’ amongst a couple of other songs that Calnin privileged the audience with, which will be out on the new record early next year.

Once Calnin started singing the entire room fell silent – immersed in delicate melodies and touching lyrics the energy of the room. Sparking vocal reminiscence of Bon Iver Calnin’s vocal capacity hits a sensational choral range. Calnin’s vocal and lyrical versatility sends you on a dream-like trance letting the harmony flow over you. The haunting vibe of the melodies lingered as each song finished leaving the audience stagnant and musically touched.

I personally find audience interaction immensely important and Calnin was definitely on top of that, telling stories and making the audience feel included in anyway he could. An unforgettable magical experience overall – I hugely look forward to Calnin’s future musical endeavors and the new album.

From early beginnings, singer/songwriter, Hayden Calnin has carved out a path refusing to adhere to convention and genre. By the time the multi-instrumentalist had graduated from film school, a major in sound design had set the scene for Calnin to take an interest in music production.

On his first two self-produced EPs, he explored the realms of everything from folk through to downbeat, melting together powerful melodies with understated electronic production. The 2016 release of his highly anticipated two-part album ‘Cut Love Pt. 1 & 2’ saw him gain support from the industry through international blogs such as Pigeons and Planes, Stereogum and Earmilk and spins on renowned radio stations Triple J (AU), BBC6 (UK) and KCRW (USA).

No stranger to having his music synced on international TV, Hayden has landing himself various syncs over the past few years on shows such as Suits, Teen Wolf, The Vampire Diaries, The 100 and So You Think You Can Dance USA. Hayden Calnin

In one fell swoop Hayden Calnin was able to communicate with millions of people across the globe.

The Australian songwriter was a virtual unknown when his song ‘Love’ was picked to play over the final scene of the eighth season of the Vampire Diaries. With his soft delivery and engrossing lyricism, Hayden’s quietly beguiling approach was difficult to resist.

New EP ‘Dirt’ drops this summer, Hayden comments on the songs:

“‘Collision’ is maybe one of the hardest songs I’ve ever had to write. I wrote it in secret, not really showing anyone until I was comfortable with how it was sounding. It was never meant to be a song with all the hooks and all the standard rules in song structure that you’re meant to follow. I avoided that and just let it come out naturally. ‘Collision’ is an expression about a really dark time for a friend of mine. And, like my previous single, ’Waves’, following that exploration of mental health in young adults.”

The Australian electro-folk singer-songwriter Hayden Calnin has just released his stunning new track “Waves”. The track is taken from an upcoming EP which is due for release later this year.

”Waves” was written for a good friend and became my interpretation of what was going on in that friend’s head whilst battling severe mental health issues,” Calnin explained. “I wasn’t always able to be there to help them through it and the song evolved into somewhat of an ode to me being a bit of a shit friend when they really needed someone around. I wanted to let that friend know I’m always thinking of them.”

Typically, there will be usually quite a gap between an artist’s debut and their sophomore effort. After all, there’s all the promotion to handle, touring, not to mention the actual writing and recording portions. But Melbourne’s Hayden Calnin had too much to say to wait longer than a few weeks. Just over two months on from releasing his debut record, Cut Love Pt 1 , Calnin is back with Cut Love Pt. 2.

“Continuing on from Cut Love Pt. 1, Cut Love Pt. 2 is an exploration into a very confusing time of my life where I was feeling a little lost and off the rails,” explains Calnin of the new album. “We’ve all been there at some point so I think much of the sentiment behind the album is something a lot of people will find relatable. Pt. 2 has a bigger sound than Pt. 1 and is  also the first release that I’ve worked on with another producer. I’m really proud of what Tim Carr and I have created.”

What they’ve created are nine tracks of adventurous and alluring folktronica. Album opener “Caution Cares” brings to mind comparisons of both Bon Iver and the quieter moments of TV on the Radio, while a song like single “Ultra-Beast” highlights Calnin’s husk vocals in a neo-R&B setting. A surprising cover of Elvis Presley song “Hound Dog” turns the song on its head, swinging it from a rocking blues number to a smoky indie brooder. But the delicacy of “Dinosaur Stampede” perhaps best sums up the entire thread of the record, an effort that’s at once heartbreaking and redemptive, alternatively slight and momentously powerful.

Cut Love Pt. 2 is out this Friday, May 13th,

A particular favourite here is singer/songwriter/producer Hayden Calnin and his musical career were drawn in his teen years after his father gave him a guitar at age 14. He hasn’t gone a day since without playing it. Dabbling in bands through his teens led him to add drums and piano to his repertoire, until at age 17 he finally decided to take on vocals. A degree in film, with a major in sound design became Hayden’s entry point into the world of music production. From here on it was only natural that Hayden would begin recording his own songs at home.

Since releasing his independent debut EP ‘City’ in 2012 Hayden has supported the likes of Tom Odell, Matt Corby, Willy Mason, Oliver Tank and Missy Higgins. He’s played festivals including Falls Festival, Gorgeous Festival and NYE On The Hill and has received significant attention with international syncs for his songs on USA TV series ‘Suits’, MTVs ‘Awkward’ and new CW series ‘The 100’.

Debut EP ‘City’ and sophomore EP ‘Oh, Hunter‘ are out now worldwide on iTunes.
