This was originally sung by Chris Isaak, this version is by James Vincent McMorrow, (JVM) is an Irish singer-songwriter whose name has been thrown around with the likes of Bon Iver and James Blake  who are both amazing artists, but let’s not let JVM get lost in the sea of similarities.  His raspy yet silky smooth falsetto voice that’s full of emotion puts him in a league of his own.  Some have marked  JVM as a folk artist (yes, he has a beard and yes, he plays a guitar), which can largely be attributed to his first album “Early In The Morning”, but JVM consciously moved in a new direction on his second full-length album, “Post Tropical”, introducing electronic instruments such as a Roland TR-808 combined with soulful and hip-hop influences.

Here is his cover of  Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Games.”  This performance is chilling and full of emotion, one that I am sure no one will forget.

Universal Soldier” is a song written and recorded by Canadian singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie. The song was originally released on Sainte-Marie’s debut album It’s My Way! in 1964. “Universal Soldier” was not a popular hit at the time of its release, but it did garner attention within the contemporary folk music community. It became a hit a year later when Donovan covered it. Sainte-Marie said of the song: “I wrote ‘Universal Soldier’ in the basement of The Purple Onion coffee house in Toronto in the early sixties. It’s about individual responsibility for war and how the old feudal thinking kills us all.”

The War On Drugs did a great Bob Dylan cover for Minnesota’s 89.3 The Current a few weeks ago. In an interview with the radio station, frontman Adam Granduciel said that he wanted to make sure that they had perfected the cover by the time they got to Dylan’s home state, and he discussed what a huge influence the singer had on his life and music. Then the band launched into “Tangled Up In Blue,” which they’ve also recently been playing during their live shows.

Welsh indie rockers Catfish & The Bottlemen cover The Killers ‘Read My Mind’, with just a little bit of R Kelly ‘Ignition’, for Australian station triple j’s Like A Version.

The hard-rocking English five-piece Marmozets—whose members include two sets of siblings—have been performing together since they were teenagers. Signed to Warner’s Roadrunner Records on the strength of those live shows and a few EPs, the band released their first full-length this autumn.

Marmozets recorded a phenomenal cover of Morrissey’s classic ‘English Blood, Irish Heart’ whilst at the XFM studios in London. The recording is taken from The Evening Show .

“Walk Unafraid” appears in the motion picture, WILD . Thursday’s revelation of the 2015 Oscar nominations, First Aid Kit have released a new video for the song they contributed to an Academy-recognized film. The Swedish folk duo cover R.E.M.’s “Walk Unafraid” on the soundtrack for Wild, the movie for which both Reese Witherspoon (Best Actress) and Laura Dern (Best Supporting Actress) scored Oscar nods. And it’s pretty clear the singing sisters have the iconic alt-rockers’ stamp of approval… at least from guitarist Peter Buck, who joins First Aid Kit’s Johanna and Klara Söderberg in the live performance clip.

The Söderberg sisters met Buck while on a tour stop in Portland, Oregon, where the former R.E.M. member now lives. They were also in Portland to shoot the official music video for “Walk Unafraid” and invited Buck to the Pendarvis Farm set, where he sat with them to film a second, stripped-down rendition of the song.

The uplifting “Walk Unafraid,” written by Buck with bandmates Mike Mills and Michael Stipe, originally appeared on R.E.M.’s electronic-leaning 1998 “Up” album. While never released as a single, it became a fan-favourite .

The latter half of 2014 has seen Bess Atwell preparing her debut single, however it’s her healthy collection of bedroom demos on Soundcloud that have held us in baited breath. Timeless songs meet elements of Marika Hackman in Bess’ gorgeous folk breaths, including her outstanding covers, such as Paolo Nutini’s ‘Iron Sky’.

Bess Atwell is a 19 year old acoustic act formerly known as ‘Bessie’. Having gained a significant audience for her music online, the singer/songwriter and guitarist is now gigging frequently in London, building up a more local fan base. Her debut single ‘A Thousand Lovers’ is set for release early 2015.

That said, she’ll almost induce tears with her own beautiful ballads, regaling honest lyrics on ‘2014’ – “I don’t want to change, it’s alright; rather lose myself than fight” – not least during the reflective ‘2014’. Her “untitled” demo is exceptionally moving too, but be sure to tick off ‘One Last Word’ and ‘One Day’ as you explore her dreamy and beautiful back catalogue.

After releasing the highly acclaimed “Country Sleep” a couple years ago now, Winston Yellen aka Night Beds went quiet, deleting his Facebook and wiping his Twitter. He seems to be slowly re-emerging though, with a new single earlier this month likely previewing a second album (the Facebook’s back too). One thing he did during the down time though was a session in his home town of Denver, finally putting to tape the beautiful Gillian Welch cover he’d played a few times at early concerts.
