Cabbage and the video for their current single ‘Gibraltar Ape’, which has been play-listed at BBC 6Music, Radio X and Virgin. Speaking about the video, Cabbage say; “No interminable, egocentric and grandeur oration can define truly of how proud we are of the Gibraltar Ape music video. Filmed and edited by Dominic Foster, starring the keen good folk of Mossley”.

Recorded at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool and produced by James Skelly (of The Coral) and Richard Turvey, ‘Gibraltar Ape’ follows the Manchester band’s three four-track EP’s released in late 2016: ‘Uber Capitalist Death Trade’ (whose title track was playlisted by BBC 6Music), ‘Necroflat In The Palace’ and ‘Terrorist Synthesizer’. A compilation of the three EPs – ‘Young, Dumb and Full of…” is available to stream now on Spotify

With their V05 NME Awards tour supporting Blossom’s sold-out, and their April headline dates also sold-out, Cabbage seem to be heading for the bigger stages very soon.

The single, Gibraltar Ape, released February 10th 2017 on Skeleton Key Records

Cabbage video for Gibraltar Ape Mossley James Skelly Blossoms tour

Cabbage’s latest single ‘Gibraltar Ape’ affirms James Skelly’s signees as one of the key rock acts in the country right now, and they have a grimy visual to accompany the disaffected feel of the single.
The video follows guitarist/singer Joe around Cabbage’s hometown of Mossley in Lancashire as he and someone in an Ape costume (presumably singer Lee Broadbent) take in the panoramic views surrounding the town and its thriving local pubs. It’s shot with a lo-fi camera, and the relatively out of focus shots reflect the disorientated feel of the tune as a whole.

The song captures the longing for freedom within the trappings of a capitalist society where transcending the presubscribed 9-5 route whilst staying above the breadline is an increasingly difficult thing to do thanks to benefit cuts. There’s no point kidding the optimism of the 90s or late 60s exists in today’s Britain, and through capturing that frustration they speak to the disaffected and ignite a spark in their bonnet.

Gibraltar Ape – Out Now on Skeleton Key Records 2017

Singer Lee Broadbent, who in addition to being a phenomenal frontman, is a highly thoughtful, intellectual young man . He’s intent on using his platform in the band to call out the most cancerous ideologies in our society and will walk through fire to get his point across. You can’t suppress Cabbage’s uncensored outlook and you can’t deny their power as a live band. 2017 needs Cabbage it we’re to help heal the poison of 2016.

Think the Roses’ spirit, Super Furries creativity, The Clash’s bollocks and you’re somewhere close to Cabbage. The most exciting and ferocious new live act on the planet.

“With songs about North Korea and Donald Trump, Cabbage would run the risk of being pigeon-holed as a political band… if it wasn’t for their filthy sense of humour.

On the song Dinner Lady, singer and lyricist Joe Martin darkly recalls his real-life experiences of serving school meals over a slinky riff: “I got so bored and idle / Served enough sausage rolls to make me suicidal.”

“We think it’s such a waste that bands have a platform to say things and just don’t” says Martin, whose poetry is inspired by “the bard of Salford”, John Cooper Clark”.

Cabbage have announced new EP ‘Uber Capitalist Death Trade’.

Out today (September 30th), the four-song EP features ‘Free Steven Avery’, their song about the prisoner from Making A Murderer, which also has the chorus “Death to Donald Trump”.

‘Uber Capitalist Death Trade’ follows the band’s support slot on Blossoms’ tour, which saw them play London Forum last night. Their set ended with ‘Free Steven Avery’ as shirtless singers Lee Broadbent and Joe Martin gave each other piggybacks across the stage.

In a statement, Cabbage said of the EP: “Exhibit A. ‘Uber Capitalist Death Trade’ is the first of its set. It pays homage to the tragedy of British soldiers being brainwashed and utilised, then either killed or spat out by the same vicious machine it salutes. It pays tribute to human nature being unforgiving and the pain of the vacuous socially cleansed cities versus the ghostly fallen towns of Britain. It prays to the gargantuan presence that is the United States Of Freedom and it begs to be punished by the sweet sweet pseudo tales of Manchester. Read a book, steal from a billionaire, listen to Cabbage. Exhibit A.”

‘Uber Capitalist Death Trade’ is released on The Coral singer James Skelly’s record label Skeleton Key, the label Blossoms released their early singles on. The full tracklisting is: ‘Uber Capitalist Death Trade’; ‘Fickle’; ‘Tell Me Lies About Manchester’; ‘Free Steven Avery’.

It’s the five-piece’s second EP, following ‘Le Choux’, which spawned the single ‘Dinner Lady’ released on The Charlatans singer Tim Burgess’ record label O Genesis.
Cabbage will play:
Leicester Cookie (October 14)
Coventry Kasbah (29)
Derby Venue (November 3)

Courteeners, The Charlatans, Blossoms, Cabbage
Ahead of the release of their fifth album, Courteeners have announced details of their biggest headline show to date.

Manchester’s Courteeners both look and sound as though they’ve come straight out of another time and place, and yet, somehow, are bang up to date. Think Babyshambles meets The Smiths and you’ll be somewhere close to their gritty, electrifying sound. Following on from their Heaton Park show (all 25,000 tickets sold out in an hour) and their record breaking seven night run at Manchester O2 Apollo, the band will play a 50,000 capacity hometown gig at Manchester’s Emirates Old Trafford (home of Lancashire County Cricket Club) on Saturday May 27th 2017.

Courteeners fifth album, ‘Mapping The Rendezvous’, is released on Ignition Records on 28th October. Produced by the band’s regular collaborator Joe Cross, Mapping the Rendezvous is the band’s boldest and best album to date – a hugely confident and supremely hook-heavy collection of songs by one of the UK’s biggest rock’n’roll bands. The album features the tracks the 17th, No One Will Replace Us and Kitchen.

The Charlatans are one of the most successful bands around, having had 3 Number one albums and numerous top 30 singles. They have had to overcome many setbacks over their 20+ years career and yet still remain a major force in today’s music industry. They have never courted media hype but yet consistently sell out venues all across Europe unlike many of their peers who have fallen by the wayside. The band that never sold out and never considered nostalgia as a career path – they truly are one of the last great bands. Expect something truly special live.

Blossoms are a mosaic five piece formed in Stockport, comprising of Tom Ogden, Charlie Salt, Josh Dewhurst, Joe Donovan and Myles Kellock. Psyche-pop riffs, vocal melodies, a film noir meets 60s aesthetic, a range of audible references from Arctic Monkeys via Abba to The Doors – Blossoms are Stockport’s newest (and arguably finest) musical export.

Manchester’s Blossoms offer a lighter take on psychedelia, one that’s steeped in classic British pop songwriting” – NME

‘Cabbage are a neo-post punk band from Manchester, whose drum beats a different beat and whose musical axis free-wheels along its own off-centred path. A truly original band, Cabbage is steeped in satire and diverse musicianship. With Lee Broadbent on vocals, Eoghan Clifford and Joe Martin on guitar, Stephen Evans on bass and Asa Morley on drums, Cabbage appear to be making it all up as they go along, through all their evolving creativity and bursting spontaneity.’

CABBAGE are a group of young males who have fallen into solitary, half-mad grooves of life and given up trying to be normal or decent. With a collective desire to express themselves creatively, artistically, and in a semi rebellious – but ultimately meaningful nature – Cabbage are here to fight for all that’s pure.

Oliver Rodrigues in 1825 said: “The power of the arts is indeed the most immediate and fastest way to social, political and economic reform,” and Cabbage join and submerge in that struggle and inevitable victory. Manchester-based, the five-piece serve up an idiosyncratic, satirical attack in the form of discorded neo post punk.
Their single entitled Kevin, taken from the Le Chou EP, has already been released with an accompanying video which will undoubtedly distort your view on life and ruin your day. Full on musical assault from the Manchester five-piece about the twisted everyday events of life. Think Fat White Family but with more to say. Not to be missed live.
