If Harlequin, she of Joker girlfriend fame, sat down and penned a song, then something in the opening section of “Seize The Power”, tells me it would be this. I’m writing this review upon the first listen as it grabbed me at the first sound. I’ve not even written the first sentence fully when I’m hearing lyrics “forget me and the Joker” and I’m all “bam! It’s not just Yonaka that are back… I’m back and I’ve still got it!”

Evidently, Yonaka never lost it. This is another dark, powerful and raw rock track, the fabrics of which are stitched together with tiny slithers of other musical genres. My instincts were to use their term Urban, but that is so trite in 2021, but to me, there is certainly a hint of grime, a dollop of dance (is Theresa channelling the late Keith Flint here? I feel like The Prodigy would make the mother of all remixes of this- and if you’re looking for a cover I wouldn’t mind Nothing But Thieves giving this beauty a bash).

Who has seen the video for the Seize The Power? It was super fun to make from smashing through glass (sugar ) being poured in like 2 bottles of lube to get that latex on and everything else. I am so proud of this and thankful to everyone who worked so hard on it.
Thanks for the wake-up call….. and the dollop of empowerment!

Yonaka

Brighton based Yonaka have returned with their fiery self-produced new single “Seize The Power”. Yonaka have released ‘Seize The Power’, which was self-produced by the four-piece and features spoken-word vocals from lead singer Theresa Jarvis,

The band’s new single follows last year’s Yonaka “Stripped Back” EP, and marks their first new material since their 2019 debut album Don’t Wait ‘Til Tomorrow. “It’s been so long since we released new music and the time has finally come; this is a new chapter for us,” the band said about ‘Seize The Power’. “We want you to get lost in a feeling of strength and empowerment when listening to this song.”

Yonaka say of their new outing, “We are so excited for the world to hear “Seize The Power”. It’s been so long since we released new music and the time has finally come; this is a new chapter for us. We want you to get lost in a feeling of strength and empowerment when listening to this song.”

Let us know your favourite track and how it makes you feel, it’s about anxiety and the darkness that comes with love, it’s a story, it’s deep and it’s special it also has our take on The Zombies’ She’s Not There.

Dot To Dot Newcomers Yonaka have shared a new video for recent single ‘Wouldn’t Wanna Be Ya’ along with details of a new headline show. The band will play London’s Borderline on 14th September following a summer of festivals including Citadel and Reading & Leeds.

The new clip for ‘Wouldn’t Wanna Be Ya’ sees the band channeling their significant live energy with a creepy, hazy clip.

The band have already appeared at the likes of Download, Dot to Dot and The Great Escape this summer, and are gaining a reputation as a fearsome live band.
