The Black Angels are the reigning champions of Austin psych rock, go big on “Waterloo Waltz” from the upcoming Scion AV compilation, Riley Hawk: Northwest Blow Out EP. The group is one of four selected by pro skater Riley Hawk for the EP whose release is tied to the forthcoming video follows Hawk and the Shep Dawgs as they travel to their skateparks in the Pacific Northwest.

Friends of Strangers is a new initiative focused on hearing the sounds that inspire the people who inspire us. Christian Bland is the prolific songwriter/guitarist behind such outfits as The Black Angels, Christian Bland & The Revelators and UFO Club. Christian also curates what is now the number one Psychedelic Festival in the world, Austin Psych Fest.
Austin Psych Fest hosts a whole load of great bands that generally would fall under the genre of being psychedelic. That is a gratefully wide definition which led to a varied and far-reaching lineup. Current psych masters like Panda Bear and of Montreal performed alongside old guards like the Zombies while stranger, more aggressive acts such as Liars and Black Lips were on hand as well.
