Paul Noonan frontman and vocalist with irish band BellXI released his first solo effort, featuring collaborations with an array of leading female artists such as Gemma Hayes, Martha Wainwright, Joan Wasser aka Joan As Policewoman and more female songstress’s to be confirmed in due course.

The yet untitled album was expected to be released in late 2012. The albums release was delayed until May 2014 due to his commitment touring, recording and releasing Chop Chop with Bell X1. The first release from the project was the EP “The Left Sleeve”  last April in Ireland. Then in May  2014 a second EP “The Right Sleeve” was released featuring 5 different tracks. The first commercial single release was ‘Apparatchik’ featuring the vocals of Paul Noonan and Lisa Hannigan.

The self-titled debut album was released featuring 9 different tracks featuring vocals from Joan As Policewoman, Martha Wainwright, Gemma Hayes, Amy Millan, Julia Stone, Lisa Hannigan Danielle Harrison, Cathy Davey, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Caoimhin O’Raghallaigh.

In May this year Paul Noonan joined many of the female singers who featured on “Printer Clips” debut album at Ireland’s National Concert Hall. In August 2014, Noonan confirmed a new Printer Clips tour of Ireland for December 2014, he will tour alongside Gemma Hayes. Both Hayes and Noonan performed ‘Snowman’ on RTÉ One Television in Ireland on August 22, 2014

Printer Clips lead singer Paul Noonan also of Bell X1, has released a Christmas single to help raise much needed funds for CMRF Crumlin.

Paul talks of his experiences with Crumlin Hospital. “When our little girl Aislinn was nine days old we took her to Crumlin hospital as she had been in pain and in distress for long enough, and we didn’t know what else to do. Turns out she had a bad intestinal infection, and there she stayed for three weeks, in the aptly named Nazareth ward. One of the tests at the time showed that she has a hole in her heart – I remember staring at the screen, watching the tiny hole open and close with her heartbeat, winking at me… We were really taken aback by the love and tender care she received in Crumlin, and would like to do something for them in return. So, I’ve written a song called Hole in Her Heart, and recorded it with Aislinn’s mama Amy.”

Paul has decided to donate all proceeds of the sale of this song to raise both money and awareness of the fact that Crumlin still needs our help in taking care of our kids when they get sick.

At least three of the participants in this ensemble side project of BellX1’s Paul Noonan would have little problem performing in any venue on their own, so it’s a win-win for fans of Noonan, Cathy Davey, Lisa Hannigan and Gemma Hayes to have them in the one room, for one song, huddled in a semi circle singing the chorus.

Noonan’s Printer Clips project strays and orphans of original songs that didn’t necessarily fit in with BellX1’s creative remit  has been fermenting for some years, with two songs dating back almost 10 years: “Vapour Trail” and “Some Surprise!” have previously appeared on 2006’s various artists charity album, The Cake Sale. Clearly, Noonan isn’t in any hurry to surge ahead with anything like a solo career, and indeed he seems rather comforted by the fact that this isn’t a solo gig.

This said, he starts off on his own with BellX1’s Godsong, a lovely tune with a Biblical bite in the lyrics, but then he’s immediately into this year’s Printer Clips album. As something to listen to on headphones, or even while peeling spuds, the record works its simple magic through hues of light and shade, grounded by Noonan’s intuitive sense of folk/pop melody and inordinately enhanced by co-vocals from the aforementioned Irish singers, as well as from the likes of Martha Wainwright, Joan as Policewoman, and Amy Millan (of Canadian band, Stars).
