Emma McGrath is an 18 year old singer-songwriter heralding from Harpenden, North London. Writing her own material since the age of 12, Emma self released her first EP, The Judgement, in November 2014. This was followed up in December 2015 with the self released single Sit With Me, which caught the attention of key media including BBC Introducing who awarded it ‘Track Of The Week’ twice and Radio 2 where it received plays from both Dermot O’Leary and Bob Harris.  Topping off a great 2015, Emma was awarded The PRS Foundation’s Lynsey de Paul prize.

Over the past 18 months Emma has been working hard building up a close network of writers who have helped to develop her craft and hone her sound.  Recognising this The PRS Foundation recently awarded Emma a Women Make Music grant for the development and subsequent release of a mini album. She is now recording with several highly qualified and exciting producers .

North London trio Skinny Girl Diet have been gaining attention over the last couple of years with their uninhibited Riot Grrrl-inspired, grunge-fuelled sound. They have also been receiving plenty of acclaim from big names in the industry.

Not only have they been played by John Kennedy on Radio X, and received praise from Everett True, but one of their biggest fans is none other than The Slits’ Viv Albertine. Of the young trio, Albertine says that they’re “raw, direct and unpretentious – these girls are timeless.”

And I most certainly agree. Still in their late teens, sisters Ursula and Delilah Holliday, along with cousin Amelia Cutler, this year have been perfecting their rousing, raucous sound, and their empowered attitude is just what the world needs right now.

With Holliday’s vocals reminiscent of a young Dalle or Love – with their own distinct London twang – Skinny Girl Diet could be one of the most exciting bands to come across this year. Skinny Girl Diet are set to play Bestival 2016, and I have no doubt we’ll be hearing a lot more from them throughout the year. You can’t afford to miss them.

ZIBRA with their debut EP 1000 is available now , Their break out track “Heartache” is a moody ‘80s synth-rock track full of pulsating beats and lots of bass that makes me imagine this is what it would sound like if Nine Inch Nails teamed up with The Bravery. It’s a super catchy single with a chorus that instantly sticks in your head, leaving you singing “you could be my heartache baby” for the rest of the day. The video showcases the band’s love for making their own VHS-looking music videos, which is reflected in them having their own production team called Youth Hymns. The infectious slice of electro pop is the product of two men living and working out of Broadwater Estate in Tottenham, North London. Recently formed but already in possession of enough songs to constitute a year’s worth of work,

Their latest single “Chlorine” also features another self styled DIY video, but this time they guys have a underwater “tropical” thing going on that I totally love. The track itself is bouncier than “Heartache,” as it features an uplifting drumbeat, shiny guitars, vocals and pounding drums slowly build up until breaking into a whirlwind of sparkling guitar and energy. If you liked what you heard, then head on over to the band’s Facebook page and show them some love and support!

They Sound Like A languorous summer day spent sun-dappled in bed with a first love, and the knowledge that the moment will end, as all good things do. with a hint  of Jeff Buckley, Foals, Buffalo Springfield, Its a band  You Should Pay Attention to Since these four British lads’ debut single, 2014’s “Veins,” racked up nearly 50,000 plays on Soundcloud in just two weeks, the U.K. music press has been all over them like they were the world’s last jar of marmite. Rowdy rocker Jamie T handpicked Palace to open for him at his first live shows in four years, which raised the band’s profile in its homeland to yet another level. Amazingly, even the Internet commentariat have had mostly positive comments for the group’s new EP, “Lost in the Night”. “Someone on Soundcloud said it’s like Morrissey and Buckley had a baby, which I guess is kind of cool,” says drummer Matt Hodges. “Another guy said we’re like Foals on Xanax, which was quite interesting. We’ve had a few comments about our music being good baby-making music too, so that’s nice.

They Say: Palace write and rehearse in a unique North London space that Hodges describes as “a musical commune/squat.” “It’s had a big influence on us as a band, as there are so many different people working on many different genres of music,” he says. “It’s also a bit of an instrument graveyard — sitars, organs, endless guitars and percussion stuff lying around, which makes for a lot of fun in our downtime when we’re recording. It’s a pretty craggy place with a lot of crap everywhere. It’s gets down to arctic temperatures in the winter, and in the summer we have to pretty much play in our boxers it’s so hot, but it’s been amazing for Palace.” Listen out for the Languid and shimmery, “Bitter” it finds the sweet-sad spot between indie emo and Sixties blues.
