On their recently released debut album, Fable Electric, London-quartet, Marine quickly set about living up to all the hype around them. Drawing comparison to the likes of Warpaint and PJ Harvey, Marine make the music of contrasts, driving beats and hypnotic a-melodic bass sit menacingly beneath intricate vocal harmonies and hook-laden guitar lines. Marine take the extraordinary stuff of legend and place it firmly into the everyday world that surrounds them, theirs is the sound of four different musicians growing through the cracks in the urban landscape and combining to something far greater than the sum of their parts. Music that bridges the gaps between spectral pop, dreamy grunge and ambient folk, whilst lyrically exploring ancient tales of mythology and the underworld

One the year’s finest debuts to date, you’ll get a chance to see how Fable Electric translates to the live stage when the band play at our upcoming All-Dayer this Saturday at The Victoria in Dalston.

This week the band Marine have returned with a brand new single, Red Fruit.

Describing their music as fable-electric, Marine are a fascinating and interesting prospect; musically walking the line between pop, folk and rock, whilst lyrically exploring ancient tales of mythology and the underworld and melding them into personal and emotional musings. Their new single Red Fruit is a fine example of Marine’s framework; the creativity of , mixed with a smooth 1990’s pop-tinged lead vocal, and the sort of soaring, bewitching backing vocals . Marine are a band tricky to pigeon-hole but very easy to enjoy.

The band are currently putting the finishing touches to their upcoming debut album, recorded with the exceptional Rob Ellis.

MARINE – ” Rapunzel “

London quartet Marine are set to head out today on what they’ve dubbed the Storybook Tour, a collection of live dates many of which are set to take place in book shops and comic stores around the country. To celebrate the occasion, the band have also shared the video for new single Rapunzel, the visuals to which are inspired by “Elvis Presley, the Spice Girls and Bulgarian folk dance.”

Marine describe themselves as, “‘Fable Electric’, a genre all their own, combining their fascination of the underworld, Seal demons, mighty Kraken, werewolves, witches and gods…. even questioning the very nature of storytelling itself.” Which is all very confusing sounding, but thankfully the aural experience is less complex, there are nods to the folkier end of Warpaint’s output, or a more rural take on PINS bewitching, girl gang harmonies. We’re not entirely they’re not trying to recruit everyone into some sort of cult/occult, but if it sounds this good, we might not take much persuading.

A story about liberating yourself from repetition! Our little homage to magic, independence, and the original story of Rapunzel who started her life as a humble enchanted lettuce…
