Black Tooth Songs make brilliantly deranged sounding scuzzed up, fuzzed up, glammed up, sliding lo-fi rock songs. Whilst their own compositions are great, as we’re talking about Manchester here, we’ve decided to share this gem of a cover version they’ve done of a Manchester classic. – Wide range of influences from 60’s psychedelia to early prog up to modern left field bands. We like music that has attitude and pushes boundaries. We are all very creative and have a heavy influence from art as well as music.

DUTCH UNCLES – “Decided Knowledge “
Posted: January 17, 2015 in MUSICTags: Dutch Uncles, Indie Pop/Rock, Manchester, O Shudder
Dutch Uncles have shared a new track from their forthcoming album, ‘O Shudder’. ‘Decided Knowledge’ is the second track to be revealed from the Manchester group’s fourth album, and follows on from its earlier single ‘In and Out’, which was revealed back in October. ‘O Shudder’ gets released on 22nd February via Memphis Industries.
With ‘Decided Knowledge’, the group take a left turn from the overtly funky previous track and offer a wonky, off-kilter number. Blending new wave and 80’s pop sensibilities, the track is driven by its bubbly keys and slashing guitar riffs, that place both an oblique and introspective spin on the lyrics.
JORDAN ALLEN – ” Set In Stone “
Posted: January 17, 2015 in MUSICTags: Jordan Allen, Manchester, singer songwriter
It would be easy, but lazy, to describe Jordan Allen as the half-way point between Alex Turner and Jake Bugg. That said, fans of Arctic Monkeys and Bugg will most likely find something in Allen’s songs of Northern accented dark nights and sharp lyrics that they approve of. Unsigned – but probably not for long!.

The Gramotones are well on the way to national recognition. Check out their ‘Money, Girls and Life’ video and have a listen to our favourite song of theirs ‘Victorian Town’ (a b-side would you believe?) here, with its exhibition class use of timeless tone, song dynamics and lyrical dexterity. Wonderful stuff!
BC CAMPLIGHT – ” You Should Have Gone To School “

B.C. Camplight is the moniker of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Brian Christinzio based in Manchester, UK. His 2005 album “Hide, Run Away” was released by One Little Indian and featured Cynthia G. Mason on vocals. Lost treasure needn’t be found in the distant past; the 21st century hides many artists who disappeared into the great wide yonder. BC Camplight is one such example. The alter-ego of Americansinger songwriter Brian Christinzio released albums in 2005 and 2007, both gems of a certain psych-pop vintage, combining eloquent songwriting with a self-destructive bent. Christinzio certainly knew it – he’s described himself as, “the guy who blew it.”
But this sublime talent with the keening vocal and fearless approach to lyrical introspection has another chance. His new album ‘How To Die In The North’, recorded in his newly adopted home of Manchester, England, is a fantastically rich, stylistically diverse trip. From dramatic, layered pop to a haunted take on Sixties sunshine-pop, Originally from New Jersey, Christinzio started playing piano aged just four, inspired by his mum’s Jerry Lee Lewis and Nilsson records and his Dad’s classical collection. Depression and crippling hypochondria clashed with captaining the football team and a penchant for boxing. Post-school, he fell in with people, “willing to go through shit to be a musician,” which saw him relocate to Philadelphia where he occasionally played live with Philly faves The War On Drugs and guested on Sharon Van Etten’s album ‘Epic’.
He’s already done two sessions for long-term fan Marc Riley at BBC 6 Music, which featured Christinzio’s band of Mancunians who he met at The Castle Hotel pub, a watering hole in the city centre particularly popular with musicians. Christinzio also heard John Grant’s album on the jukebox there, which encouraged him to approach Bella Union. Grant’s cocktail of depression and self-sabotage thwarted an outrageous talent, but he took his second chance. The same deserves to happen to Christinzio,
Bella Union are excited to announce the release of How To Die In The North, the new album from maverick songwriter BC Camplight, on 19th January.
I AM KLOOT – ” Northern Skies “
Posted: January 3, 2015 in MUSICTags: I Am Kloot, Indie. Rock, Manchester
I Am Kloot’s soundtrack to the TV series of the same name was released in November.
Whilst not a record for those that loved Sky At Night and Let It All In, it’s a fascinating insight into the creative minds inside I Am Kloot and potentially a pointer for a future away from the string-laden commercially-atuned glories of those albums.”
The Tapestry have been around the Manchester scene for three years, steadily building up a growing audience with tracks such as Rode Your Luck and this year’s thrilling single “Right As Rain”. They won the Whiskey Sessions Unsigned competition in October which saw them open the Saturday of the festival in November. The Tapestry are Liam on guitar and lead vocals, Dyna on guitar and backing vocals, Katy on bass and backing vocals and Zara on drums.
Whilst quiet in terms of releases, they’ve steadily been growing their catalogue of songs to the point where they’ve got more than enough great songs for a debut album. They start 2015 with a double A-side single with two live favourites Infatuation and Look Out as well as their biggest hometown show to date at the Band On The Wall. Their live set is choc-full of similar potential indie-dancefloor anthems that are guaranteed to win them a much bigger audience in 2015.
FINDLAY – ” Greasy Love “
Posted: January 2, 2015 in MUSICTags: Findlay, Greasy Love, Manchester, singer songwriter
Aside from a few incendiary live shows, including one of gigs of the year at the Band On The Wall back in February, 2014 has been a quiet year for Natalie Findlay and we’re expecting 2015 to be the year she finally makes a major breakthrough as she reveals the recorded versions of the songs she’s been wowing us with at those live shows.
Findlay has come a long way since her solo acoustic demos were posted on Myspace years ago that first brought her to our attention. Singles “Off And On” and “Greasy Love” are only the tip of the iceberg in terms of the strength of the songs she’s been playing live and we’re looking forward to hearing studio versions of “Gin” and “Fake Black Heart” amongst others. Her vivacious stage personality will ensure she’ll continue to charm and thrill live audiences so we think everything’s set for Findlay to become a household name in 2015.
LITTLE SPARROW – ” Struck Gold ” and ” Wishing Tree “
Posted: January 2, 2015 in MUSICTags: Little Sparrow, Manchester, singer songwriter, Struck Gold, Wishing Tree
After the release of her debut album “Wishing Tree” , Little Sparrow has released her new EP featuring two new songs, her first material since the album came out. We had a listen and loved the different mood created by the new material. Little Sparrow’s (aka Katie Ware) debut album Wishing Tree was one of our favourites of the year and she has followed up the releases of the title track and Polly earlier in the year with our standout track on the record “Struck Gold” as an EP with two completely new songs.
The real beauty of Little Sparrow’s music is in how her angelic operatically-trained voice combines with acoustic guitars and strings to produce something that will appeal to a wide range of people. Struck Gold has all those qualities from the plucked strings and Katie’s vocal harmonies in the opening section and first verse and the lyrics about love – “I’m bound to you with threaded twine, I can’t believe you are mine” and “I wouldn’t change you for the world, you’re the piece of me that struck gold” – as the song builds to the chorus.
The two additional tracks on the album move away from the more accessible poppier side of Little Sparrow that has got her radio play to produce something yearning and beautiful. Whilst a debut album has a lifetime to be written, follow-up tracks tend to have a short gestation period and often reflect a change in style. Memories Maid has a soft acoustic / strings backing, gentle and understated, whilst Katie’s vocals take centre stage, demonstrating how much she can use that voice to dictate pace and emotion of a song, the middle eight focused around her harmonies over a solitary string accompaniment.
That more melancholy reflective mood is continued If I Were A Bird and is a love song using analogies of birds and trees they nest in to. The lyrics include “you can always count on me, I’ll be waiting here for you. There’s many people in this world, but there’s none come close to you”, set to an understated reflective string-laced tune.
The Wishing Tree album should be your first port of call to listen to and fall in love with Katie’s voice, but this EP and the two extra songs are the icing on the cake for a great year for Little Sparrow.
