Lyla Foy has premiered her ethereal new video for ‘River’ . Foy described the concept of the video: “In a perfect world my music would always be heard with a visual element, especially film or something animated. We wanted to make a minimal but beautiful moving image which would enhance the song without crushing your imagination.”.

It’s a timely release as she’s now on her US tour, which includes an appearance at CMJ Music Festival on Saturday the 17th for Flower Bookings showcase. The new EP titled UMi spans between the atmospheric He Is Lost  and River to the rousing musical arrangements and expectant melodies of Glow In The Dark and Tiger to create a detailed insight into Lyla’s Foys new material.

UMi is an abbreviation of Ursa Minor, a constellation in the northern sky also known as Smaller She-Bear or Little Bear. The collection of songs reflects night time and is a direct contrast to Lyla’s Sub-Pop debut “Mirrors The Sky”, released in March 2014, whose image is daytime and daylight. The EP will be released digitally on 2nd October and vinyl copies, featuring an exclusive bonus track Blue Door. “Foy’s songs are both lush and low-key, intimate and surprisingly intricate. She layers beats generously but carefully, alternating between buoyant and bittersweet”

it’s gentle, delicate stuff somewhere between folk and dream pop.”—Brooklyn Vegan

Psych-folk troubadour Lyla Foy has uncovered a haunting live session version of “Rumour”, and she kindly filmed it too. Lyla Foy, formerly known as Walls, released her debut LP Mirrors The Sky” during the Spring on Sub Pop Records.

Her new session of “Rumours” takes the potent emotional core and jazzes it up with some stark, high-contrast imagery replete with kaleidoscopic shimmers. The track remains as spine-tingling as ever, and the rawer quality that the live setting brings only serves to plunge the knife deeper into your feels.

I think it is fair to say that we have been smitten with the music of Lyla Foy since we caught a show at last years Great Escape festival. It was a sunny afternoon (remember them), and we were hanging out in the pitch darkness of the Komedia when 3 musicians casually wandered onto stage. The next 30 minutes was a beguiling mix of spellbinding beats and hushed vocals, with Lyla very much the focal point of the live experience.

After leaving with a copy of the excellent ‘Shoestring EP’we have kept a close eye on Lyla (so to speak) and watched with interest as she signed to Sub Pop, changed her recording moniker from Wall to Lyla Foy and then released the beautiful Feather Tongue as a taster for her upcoming debut album.

As the aforementioned debut, Mirrors the Sky comes out on 18th March…
