Track By Track: Laura Welsh on new EP See Red

Staffordshire singer/songwriter Laura Welsh writes about each of the stunning tracks on her new EP See Red.  “Red” is a song about taking responsibility for fucking up. To admitting you are holding back and playing it stubborn… for being human.  The next track “Naïve” Succumbing to something familiar is easier than moving on. “Naïve” is about being on the verge of something breaking down but not being able to acknowledge it. The third song titled “Concrete” is saying everything and anything you could never say to somebody no matter what the consequences. Being honest with yourself beyond any consequences and finding out the best things can come from your biggest mistakes. The finally the last track called “Numb” is about sometimes I would rather feel nothing and escape. But a there’s a reality that always kicks in which allows you to gain perspective on certain things, helping you to move on.

Laura Welsh’s new See Red EP is out today via TwentyTwoSeven Recordings/Republic Of Music.

Laura Welsh first rose to our attention as a singer on Gorgon City’s 2014 single “Here For You,” but the Staffordshire singer broke out on her own on her tenderly crafted debut album.

Not content to let 2015 fade without new music, however, Welsh’s been holed up in studios in Los Angeles, London, and Stockholm working on her follow-up, and today she’s debuting “Sex & Violence,” a no-holds barred portrait of what happens behind closed doors. The song’s piano through-line weeps from measure to measure, Welsh’s voice pushing against her own chest as it escapes her lips.

so hearing new music was on the horizon, obviously our ears pricked up! Welsh’s debut record Soft Control was criminally underrated, however with the singer picking up a legion of new fans thanks to her Undiscovered inclusion into the 50 Shades soundtrack back in February, 2016 could well mark a turning point into the Londoner’s career. This is definitely one you need to engage yourself with – with a soaring chorus, it won’t be long before Laura Welsh is a name your friends will be muttering around in droves.

Laura Welsh and the track “Ghosts” has been around for a fair while but now it appears to have been reissued with a new video.

Moving to London to launch her music career, Laura Welsh instead saw the band she fronted collapse and her long-term relationship end.”I think probably in that year I’d spent quite a lot of time with things not working out,” she said. Instead of heading home to Staffordshire, the singer-songwriter stuck it out and used the difficulties to inspire her new material. “It felt like I had a lot to write about at the time,” she added. “It was easier for me to put it out into songs as opposed to talking about it.”.

She also used the time after the band broke up to meet new people, who helped her move in the musical direction she wanted to go in.”With the production of the album, there was a handful of people I knew I wanted to work with because I liked what they’d done and how they were approaching production,” the 27-year-old said.
