Great cover of one of the greatest bands ever! by THE CULT OF DOM KELLER from the album: Dazed and Confused A Stoned-Out salute to Led Zeppelin (2.015)

The Cult of Dom Keller have been out in the wild ever since 2007, converting worshippers to their gargantuan mind expanding sound. Over the course of three albums to date, these so-called #FreakRockGothPsychAlchemists have woven together a spiralling wall of music, full of drones, harmonies and guitar crunch.

Their latest LP, “Goodbye to the Light”, was picked up by esteemed London imprint Fuzz Club Records (A Place To Bury Strangers, Dead Skeletons) and released to glittering reviews back in July. It’s an enticing mix of melody and black arts, all coated in a thick aural film.

Speaking of first single Broken Arm Of God, the band said ‘we wanted it to sound like a volcano giving birth to an atomic bomb’ which is a good indication of where their collective head is currently at. The band go out on tour this week to hammer their recent success home.

The Cult Of Dom Keller are,

Ryan (vocals/guitars/keys), Neil (vocals/keys), Jason (bass/synthesiser), Al (drums/percussion), an eight limbed psychedelic music making machine

We at Artrocker have fallen in love with Throw Down Bones since witnessing their blazing performance at last weekend’s Fuzz Club Festival. And now, not only do we have access to the duo’s self-titled debut album – 8 tracks of thirst-quenching, experimental electronica – but we have also been given the green light to stream this beautiful thing to you lucky lot. Already, according to iTunes, it is the Fuzz Club label’s most played album of 2015. So get yourselves stuck in,

Due for release December 1st, the self titled album is preceded by singles “Saturator” and “Exposure”, which dance between minimal rhythms and industrial soundscapes, shadowed by repeating riffs and persistent beats that got the crowds dancing a frenzy not only last weekend at the Fuzz Club bash, but also at Liverpool Psych Fest earlier this year.

It is an experimental masterpiece, created somewhere in the Alps following weeklong jam sessions where the band harvested sounds, riffs and effects from which to build the final tracks.

Their mix of club-ready beats and live guitars make Throw Down Bones a great act to watch as they blend the infectiousness of dance music with the raw energy of live rock n roll. Truly wonderful.

10000 Russos (pronounced ‘dez mil russos’) are another Fuzz Club band who seem to have emerged from nowhere this year with an amazing debut album that is both immediate and keeps on growing. Like many Fuzz Club bands they play music that it intensely dark and brooding, but perhaps unlike most of their label mates, take some of their primary clues from The Fall, the album opener ‘Karl Burns’ is even named after a Fall drummer. The Mark E Smith style vocals are obvious throughout the album, along with other sonic clues from early Krautrock, punk and post-punk (notably the Sex Pistols and Cabaret Voltaire), as well as the two Fuzz Club common denominators of Joy Division and the Jesus and Mary Chain. This was a massive surprise when I first played this album and I have continued to find new things to enjoy here; 10000 Russos are also one of the best and most innovative bands that I have seen live this year. when they played an awesome set with brilliant visuals at the Musician in Leicester.

If there was a ‘packaging of the year’ prize it would, for me, certainly go to Sonic Jesus and Fuzz Club records with a beautifully crafted double gatefold sleeve, fronted by Mirco Marcacci’s amazing take of Bernini’s sculpture, ‘The Ecstasy Of Saint Theresa’, and two amazing splatter discs of vinyl. This, however, had nothing to do with the band’s inclusion in this list, which goes entirely on aural merit. This is a double album of dark beauty and intensity which more than matches the expectation that the physical form creates. From beginning to end this is an sonic experience that fuses diverse musical and cultural ideas into a coherent and thoroughly satisfying whole. This is an album for the mind and the soul

Eindhoven based RMFTM are an instrumental rock band consisting of Glenn Peeters, Jan-Titus Verkuijlen, Tony Lathouwers and Bram van Zuijlen. Their approach on the psychedelic rock scene is rather broad. By taking different genres in to account such as; shoegaze, neo-psych, kraut, space and noise rock, they take off in an interstellar exploration of new sounds. Their debut album ‘Echo Forever’ (released on Fuzz Club Records) has sold out after two EU headline tours in 2013 and various one-off shows at the likes of: Roadburn Festival 2013, Duna Jam 2013, the reverb conspiracy festival 2012, Freak Valley festival 2013, Desertfest Berlin and Eindhoven psych lab. The 2014 released record, ´Strange Wave Galore´, delivers a new sonic experience on the senses.

“Overwhelming, atmospheric & highly immersive. As far as space, stoner & psychedelic rock goes, this is one of the best albums 2012 has to offer. Don’t miss it!”
“There’s something very refreshing and alien to these latest seven tracks, but that’s not to say the Radar Men are entirely unfamiliar sounding. Like dehydrated space food, you’ve tasted these flavors before, just never in such a form”.

We’ll begin our inaugural column with a quick PSA about the healing qualities of psych rock. Recently, 10000 Russos (pictured) banished my hay fever with a spell of tough, droning love. Their brand of rock is a placebo: they only sound like riff swirlers Carlton Melton and Blown Out in theory, and in secret the Portuguese outfit compel us with a foggy, almost sabotaging presentation of their genre’s hallmarks. The arrangements they write are crystalline, but they present them at an echoing distance that recalls the lo-fi sewer pop of Dirty Beaches. Their self-titled is a distorted wonderland that will clean you out. Stakhanovets from 10000 Russos debut album out May 20th on Fuzz Club Records. Vinyl out July 20th.

Track from the Fuzz Club 10″ Split Single Series available at fuzzclub.com, “Behind All Evil Is A Black Hole” is Cult Of Dom Keller’s contribution to our Split Single Series shared with the Myrrors,

Nottingham’s Cult of Dom Keller The Myrrors which is out on July 25th and now available for pre-order.

The band has been around for 7 years now, the Cult of Dom Keller?  I’ve seen the band evolve over that time,

Early days of rehearsing in a church cellar in the dark, amongst electric shocks and supernatural happenings, jamming till the sun rose, followed by a long cycle of playing gigs, working and existing on no sleep, with no money & disillusioned by a world around us, And then the pull of the universe brought us together to make music and The Cult of Dom Keller has existed ever since. There’s never been any agendas, egos or mission statement: just creating and evolving our own thing and pushing ourselves as musicians/songwriters.”

The track is called ‘Behind All Evil is a Black Hole’.  I came up with the title after I had been messing around with some mixes of a track we had been working on. We fucked around with the arrangement and then Neil began to write a melody on top, and the song came together. It’s a maelstrom of sound, and a really powerful track, that perfectly captures our transitional period in songwriting at the moment and acts as a perfect precursor to the new material that we have written for the album.”

Neil: “To me, the black hole represents life without music or creativity. The evil is all the obstacles that get in the way. I guess it’s about not giving up – not slipping into that void.”

Late last year, Britain’s Fuzz Club Records launched a split single series, which brings together an established heavyweight act and a fresh-faced riser on one extremely limited colored 10-inch vinyl. For the fifth entry in the series, Italian upstarts Sonic Jesus will have “Lost Reprise” featured as the B-side to The Black Angels’ “Molly Moves My Generation”.

While much of The Black Angels’ Clear Lake Forest EP from earlier this year showcased sun-soaked psych, this new track is a much darker affair. There’s plenty of pounding drum beating a hurried escape through the knotted forest of echoing guitar wails. But that’s only the first third of the track; the final acts of the song will send you straight towards mental collapse.

The Black Angels/Sonic Jesus split single is out December 15th and will be available for purchase at the Fuzz Club online store. Future singles will see contributions from Anton Newcombe of Brian Jonestown Massacre, A Place to Bury Strangers, and Lee Ranaldo.
