Twin brothers Ollie and Callum Devlin lead New Zealand Wellington, Hans Pucket A band that The Beths’ Liz Stokes has called “The best band in New Zealand.” She’s put her money where her mouth is, too, producing the band’s new album, “No Drama”, which will be out November 4th via Carpark. Get a taste now with bouncy, likable first single “My Brain is a Vacant Space.”

This Wellington, New Zealand four-piece Hans Pucket writes nervy but effortlessly danceable rock songs about feeling bad. Their second full-length album, “No Drama”, gleefully captures the all-too-common twenty-something anxieties of talking too much and then being unable to find the right words to say. When frontman Oliver Devlin sings, “I’m surfing a constant wave of alarm” on the title track, it’s a compass for the other nine tracks. This is inviting and relatable music for people who, despite their best efforts, feel uncomfortable about themselves, the state of the world, and their place in it.
Both lyrically and sonically, “No Drama” is a departure for Hans Pucket from their 2018 debut “Eczema”. “I realized I didn’t want to write any more real heartbreak songs,” says Oliver Devlin. “We were and still are a live band. We’re still trying to make music that’s catchy and people can dance to, but also really interesting to us: songs about growing up and finding how you exist in the world.”

Releases November 4th, 2022

Band: Oliver Devlin, Callum Devlin, Jono Nott and Callum Passells

“My Brain Is A Vacant Space” is the first single off of Hans Pucket’s forthcoming album ‘No Drama’, out November 4th on Carpark Records.

Woodstock riff rockers The Bobby Lees will release new album “Bellevue” on October 7th via Ipecac. “I named the album “Bellevue” because when I listen back, I hear someone going through that stuff, who is now able to laugh about it and have fun re-telling the stories,” says bandleader Sam Quartin. “It’s a reminder for me that the most painful and intense things I go through end up being the most rewarding creatively.” New single “Monkey Mind” is fun.

Proudly outspoken and riotously loud, The Bobby Lees are Ipecac Recordings’ newest signing. Following on from the success of the “Hollywood Junkyard” EP and their Summer tour dates, the band announce their brand new full-length album, “Bellevue“, thirteen tracks of uninhibited rock and roll arriving on 7th October.

Iggy Pop, Debbie Harry, Henry Rollins…these are just a few of the punk icons who have shown support for Woodstock, NY based band The Bobby Lees. Sam Quartin [vocals, guitar], Macky Bowman [drums], Nick Casa [guitar], and Kendall Wind [bass] — make music that is punk in spirit and soul; unfettered and resolutely honest. To say their sound is wild and untethered is an understatement. It’s the kind of aural exorcism any listener can tap into, something that struck a chord with Henry Rollins who brought them to Ipecac Recordings where Mike Patton and Greg Werckman signed them. The latest single “Monkey Mind” explodes with a head-crushing hook, seesawing back and forth with manic intensity. Sam expands, “It’s about your head talking to you too loudly or being mean to yourself.”

The Bobby Lees are: Macky Bowman (drums) Nick Casa (guitar) Sam Quartin (vocals/guitar) Kendall Wind (bass)

The new single from the new album, “Bellevue“, coming October 7th.

2021 year marked 11 years of The Reverberation Appreciation Society record label, and we’ve updated this 60 track compilation, which spans over a decade of releases. Download it for free or pay what you want. Thank you for listening, thanks to all the great artists we’re lucky enough to work with. We’re looking forward to many more great records.

This label & Levitation fest are really what still make Austin the music capitol of the world. Austin City Limits definitely isn’t doing it haha These 60 tracks are like VIP tickets for those that have no idea what’s going on.

They are among all my “favourite tracks”. Of all the Psych music, I’d have to say The Reverberation Appreciation Society captures best the current sound I’m into the most. Every band is full of high level musicianship. This compilation is quite a gem to own (name your price!). Looking forward to more Levitation sessions, releases from these bands, and new bands signing onto the label that fit the feel and vibe of groovy psych scene.

“Credit Note” is the new EP by south-coasters Holiday Ghosts. It’s a rollocking garage rock record which compels you to hit the open road, even if the car air-con is bust and the pack of Marlboro lights you so desperately crave cost more than anything at Rough Trade East. It’s a touch more lo-fi than last year’s ‘Off Grid’ and a textbook advert for going into the studio recording live with an affinity for warm tones and single coil guitars.

Appetites were already whetted in spring when the title track dropped – sporting sounds akin to fellow FatCat alumni Milk Maid and emphasising the slight departure from perhaps the more acoustic, ‘Las’ type melodies which tracks like ‘Mr Herandi’ championed in the last record.

Punkish in track length, speed and gumption – the lyrics in ‘Credit Note’ are up-front, visceral but with a hint of 1970s malt shop and mystery machine America. None more so in the frenetic fuzzball contradictions of ‘Plain Dumb’

Save for the twang-filled bulwark, ‘Bright Lights Big City’, Credit Note is a record of refreshingly low viscosity, whose effortless fizz and fusion of blues, rockabilly and indie rock rivals that of Ty Segall and Mikal Cronin’s cult collaboration on the Reverse Shark Attack EP from 2009. It leaves you wanting more – so I hope the bonus two tracks that are hidden from you mere mortals on the streamers surface some day!

Speaking of sharks, Holiday Ghosts are from Falmouth, Cornwall – the quartet’s nerve centre being the tight collaboration between partners Katja Rackin and Samuel Stacpoole, now joined by B. Spanks and Morgan Lloyd-Mathews. A big tour spanning dates in London (Shacklewell Arms), Cambridge (Portland Arms), Manchester (Gullivers) is on the horizon – culminating in an autumnal finish at the iconic Left of The Dial showcase festival in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Credit Note” EP is out now on FatCat Records.

Joined by a lush string section, the group covered ‘Why Does It Always Rain On Me?’ – the breakthrough 1999 single for Scottish band Travis. Frontman Dave Le’aupepe says he remembers first hearing the “timeless, beautiful song” on rage as a kid.

Having covered The Middle East and LCD Soundsystem in the Like A Version studio before, this time, Dave joked Gang of Youths wanted to lean into their “adult contemporary, Bridget Jones, London-era vibe.”

Le’aupepe also gave us an emotive performance of original “Angel in Realtime”. track ‘brothers’, which we’ve called “a stunning, piano-and-voice centrepiece that allows a much-needed moment of quiet amid the grand epics.”

Like A Version is a segment on Australian radio station triple j. Every week a musician or band performs one of their own songs and cover a song they love.

Girlpuppy is 22 year old Atlanta based singer-songwriter Becca Harvey. Either wanting to be Hannah Montana or Taylor Swift growing up, she is now making music that sounds nothing like her childhood influences. Following her first track For You and it’s success, she enlisted the help of of Marshall Vore (Phoebe Bridgers) to make her debut ep, coming soon.

Having first emerged with a more folk-leaning sound Becca Harvey returns as Girlpuppy by ushering in some heavier, shogaze-y influences. She buries herself in sound as she processes anger, sadness and remembrance after falling out with a friend.

PLAINS – ” Problem With It “

Posted: August 5, 2022 in MUSIC

Plains, a new venture featuring Katie Crutchfield (of Waxahatchee) and Jess Williamson, have announced their debut album ‘I Walked With You A Ways’ due out October 14th on
Anti- Records.

Crutchfield tells us “I’m thrilled to announce this new project and album. I’ve felt a connection to Jess’s song writing and a kinship with her since we met years ago. Getting to lean into the influence of the music we both grew up with while also making something that feels very current and fresh to me was a great experience and I’m so happy to finally share it.”

Williamson adds “Making this record with Katie was a deeply expansive experience for me as a song-writer. I really trust her ear and sensibilities, and she encouraged me to explore aspects of my song writing that in the past I’ve shied away from. Katie’s support was so important for me as we wrote this album. We gave ourselves permission to lean into the music that raised us and write the kind of classic timeless songs that we both grew up singing along to. For me that was The Chicks and Dolly Parton, and having a place to channel those influences was an absolute blast. My hope with Plains was to tap into something Universal. I love the album we made, and I’m so excited to play it live.”

Crutchfield’s sharp, honest edge of truth telling paired with Williamson’s ability to paint the scene shine through on “I Walked With You A Ways”

Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield and Jess Williamson recorded this one-time collaboration country album.

Written between Kansas City, Los Angeles, and Marfa, the album was recorded in Durham, NC with collaborator and producer Brad Cook. The creative magic of only a few vocal takes, tracking with a band comprised of Spencer Tweedy and Phil Cook, gives the album a feel of fresh, on-the-spot conception. The trust and history of Crutchfield and Cook’s collaborations (Saint Cloud, Great Thunder EP) set the tone for this new container of spontaneity and experimentation.

In their solo endeavors you hear a specificity of experience that is so sharp and intimate that it brings the listener into a personal side of the experience of life.

“Problem With It” by Plains taken from the album ‘I Walked With You A Ways’, available October 14th

Originally released as a bonus 7″ vinyl as part of the limited edition Dinked pressing of Cindy’s third album, “1:2.

Little Liability:
This song feels like walking in the northwest part of San Francisco. Aaron lives in that neighbourhood. It’s usually overcast there and the wide avenues are crossed by narrower streets. It’s a quiet part of town that eventually leads you to the ocean.

Take My Place:
I wrote this song, like most Cindy songs, because something I came across in daily life crystallized things I’ve thought and felt for a long time. It was heaven to sit down with my friend Kati in her apartment and work out a two guitar arrangement on her four track. She’s an incredible musician and even though we tried a few versions, the first recorded attempt is what you hear.
