Intergalactic festival of music, science, art, technology & the exploration of space | Jodrell Bank Observatory | Bluedot returns summer 2017. Join us for a full weekend of fascinating talks from best-selling authors and award-winning academics, covering everything from how to ‘eat in the future’ to how the ‘brain make us laugh’ and the science of magic and mindfulness.

The Observer Science & Tech will host an afternoon of talks and debates around Fake News, with leading journalists and politicians discussing whether the increasing trend in our post-truth, post-Trump world threatens democracy itself; and The Dark Web – a magical mystery tour around the darker side of the internet, where anyone can operate under a cloak of anonymity, and why we should care what happens there, hosted by Geoff White, head of Tech for Channel 4.

There will also be an exclusive screening and live rescore of The Moomins and The Comet – the Tove Jansson classic by the original composer.

Bilbao BBK Live have expanded its line-up for 2017 with event by adding Royal Blood, Brian Wilson presents Pet Sounds, Explosions in The Sky, Joe Goddard live and more.

The latest additions join the lineup alongside the likes of Depeche Mode, The Killers, Phoenix and Justice who will play atop the Kobetamendi Hill in the the heart of the Basque Country.

Brighton rock Royal Blood are renowned for their riff heavy live shows, so much so that they had the privilege of hitting the road with Foo Fighters have taken them on the road – make of that what you will, what that means for the band i’m not sure.

A true master of his craft; as the primary songwriter for 60s legends The Beach Boys, Brian Wilson is responsible for some of the most memorable pop songs of all time not least on the band’s seminal album Pet Sounds and will play the same set that had the good people of Barcelona falling week at the knees during Primavera last summer.

Explosions In The Sky’s epic post-rock has seen them soundtrack emotional on screen roller coasters like Friday Night Lights and last year’s blockbuster movie Deepwater Horizon. Their set is sure to be one of the most atmospheric of the festival and where better to see it than on the picturesque Kobetamendi Hill. Hailing from Bristol, post-punk quintet IDLES have gained a reputation for their noisy punk sounds and their sweaty, incendiary live shows. With a driving rhythmic basis and lyrics that are both poetic and funny, they are one of the bands to watch out for in 2017 and with debut album ‘Brutalism’ on the way.

Whether on his own or as one half of acclaimed DJ duo The 2 Bears, Joe Goddard has graced the booth of practically every sought-after club night in the UK. Best known as a member of Hot Chip, he’s responsible for some of the most instantly recognizable synth pop of all time and is sure to offer one of the standout sets of the weekend.

Paul Weller will play a very special acoustic support set at Richard Hawley’s 16th February Union Chapel show for War Child’s BRITs Week.

Money raised by the show will aid War Child’s vital work to protect, educate and stand up for the rights of children whose lives have be torn apart by war.
