Most of the LET IT BE album was recorded in January 1969, before the recording and issue of the album ABBEY ROAD.
LET IT BE was originally intended to be released before Abbey Road during 1969 as the album Get Back then mixed and completed by Glynn Johns but was then temporarily shelved with a new version remixed and produced by Phil Spector in 1970. serving to assist the release of the movie “Let it Be” three songs were issued as singles “Get Back/Don’t let me Down” and “Let It Be”, the rooftop film of the Beatles performing songs from the album is classic music filming.

when it came out in 1974 it was dismissed slightly as the last gasps of Ziggy Stardust, seen as Bowie’s swan song to the raw guitar style, but its an album that has inspired bands for many years since including industrial acts like Bauhaus and Nine Inch Nails,It was another concept album and Bowie’s eighth release Initially based on the novel by author George Orwell book 1984,but Orwell’s estate refused permission for its use  this was Bowie’s own glam-tinged vision. the main character is Halloween Jack a real cool cat,  with its echoes of Ziggy especially with the Bowie haircut and the glam style trash rock song and guitar intro “Rebel Rebel” also was influences of the guitar style of the Rolling Stones particularly on” Sweet Thing”  where Bowie used a similar method of cutting up style of writing as favoured by William S Burroughs. Tony Visconti reunited with Bowie to co produce and add string arrangements a role he continued for at least the next decade, The cover art caused some further uproar as Bowie’s half man half dog naked image across the cover

Out this week is the deluxe expanded album SKYLARKING reissued in a 5.1 surround sound from Steven Wilson, this track “Dear God” from the brilliant english band XTC who released the album in 1986 the track DEAR GOD was not originally on the final running list but was added after it became hugely popular after a radio station in the USA flipped the A-Side of the song “Grass” to play the anti-theist anthem leaving off the track “Mermaid Smile”. the sessions produced by Todd Rundgren who famously did not get along with Andy Partridge, XTC were melodic angular pop with jagged riffs this reissue is one of the finest album to be released at that time its lush broad and deeply expansive and parts of the psychedelia sound for the next Dukes of stratosphere appear
