“Kool Faith/Loosies II” was created by TAGABOW’s Douglas Dulgarian in the spirit of the mixtapes he grew up on. The 29 new songs include collaborations with Hotline TNT, Horse Jumper of Love, Scarlet Rae, Spirit of the Beehive and more. “Look at the options. Just pick one,” says Dulgarian. “Go that way. See how it feels. Try another one. See how it feels. Let the world have its way with you. Cuz someday you’ll look back and think of all the places you’ve been. All the things you let wash over you.”
A love letter to the Philly music scene and the label Julia’s War. A lot of love on this album. Blissed out excerpts and samples. TAGABOW continues to impress. This is the ultimate mixtape of fuzz and beats.
love this release because i love tagabow and every shining star in the universe around it, gathered as they are here in the features
Doug Dulgarian still has fond memories of the jewel-cased mixtapes he’d pick up on the cheap as a kid, and the expansive yet hyper-regional feel of a genre-spanning track list spliced together by a local radio DJ. TAGABOW’s new mixtape gives the Philly band their very own DJ moment, compiling cuts with an array of Julia’s War labelmates and friends-of including Spirit of the Beehive, Greg Mendez, Hotline TNT, DJ Manny, Lucy (Cooper B. Handy), and RXKNephew.
“The word mixtape initially meant a homespun tape that you typically listened to yourself or gave to somebody else,” Dulgarian explained in press materials. “For me who was born later, it meant mashups of all my favorite artists by local DJs. And so that’s what I did with this one, mashups of all my favorite artists.”
