In 2017 British art-rockers Wild Beasts announced their breakup in a typed up statement, signed by the band and posted to Instagram. That was followed by a final EP, Punk Drunk and Trembling, three farewell concerts came in February 2018, and a final album, February 2018’s live in the studio release Last Night All My Dreams Came True (which featured new interpretations of songs from across their catalogue).

Hayden Thorpe formerly their singer is about to release his debut solo album, “Diviner”, via Domino Recordings. this week he shared one last pre-release song from it, “Earthly Needs,” a track built around a hypnotic beat and Thorpe’s very distinctive emotive vocals.

Back in February Thorpe shared the album’s title track, “Diviner,” via a video. When the album was announced in April he shared another song from it, “Love Crimes,” . Diviner was written in California, Cornwall, and at Thorpe’s home in London.

A previous press release described the album as such: “Diviner is a deeply emotional album: lyrically generous in its candid tone and self-awareness, the melodies resonant with sense memory. The album feels like a startling departure from Thorpe’s previous work with Wild Beasts and also unlike anything else being made at the moment.”

Thorpe had this to say about the album in the previous press release: “My adulthood was based on a certain belief system, a band, a family. When it shifted entirely, I had a ghost I had to find a new haunt for…. I believe in the medicinal properties of songs. I believe in their healing properties, Songs defy time, they don’t erode or denature, they come with you and reform anew in your mind as and when you need them…. I broke up with myself. So this is a break-up album, but not about a relationship. It’s a break-up from a past self, it’s a breakup from the old idea of yourself and therefore every relationship, of all kinds, that you’ve ever had.”

Wild Beasts are coming to an end,” the band said in their statement.

“Our hearts and minds have been devoted to the band since we were teenagers. We’ve created something quite of our own and built a body of work which we stand by as heartfelt and true. The four of us have decided for our own reasons and in our own ways that it is now time to leave this orbit.

“We’re care takers to something precious and don’t want to have it diminish as we move forward in our lives. Thank you for your love and energy and for helping us make it what it is. We consider ourselves remarkably fortunate to have lived out this dream. Before we go, we’d like to celebrate with you.”

Wild Beasts are following up 2014’s Present Tense with a new album called Boy King. The British art-rockers’ fifth album was produced by John Congleton, and the band’s Tom Fleming describes it as a return to “being pissed off” after the relative levity of their previous effort. As frontman Hayden Thorpe also explains in a press release: “After five records there had to be an element of ‘what the fuck?’ […] The only thing you can do from that point onwards is turn your vehicle into traffic and play chicken with yourself, and do all the things you said you’d never do.”

Lead single “Get My Bang” is a vibrant, pulsating dance track — apparently, the bare-bones of these songs were initially conceived of in writing sessions with Disclosure. “It’s all about the horrific lengths you have to go to to get gratification in today’s society where we can’t live out these Byronic characters, so we have to go shopping and fight each other over TVs to satisfy the id, that primal part — that’s how people get off,” Thorpe says. The new song comes attached to a video directed by Olivier Groulx featuring two dancers and the band performing in an alleyway.

‘Boy King’ – the new album, out August 5th,

Boy King will be released on heavyweight 12” vinyl including album download card, with a deluxe edition including a bonus 7” of two bonus songs available via the Wild Beasts online store. The album will also be released on standard and deluxe CD formats, with the deluxe edition including a 12-page booklet, as well as deluxe digital download.
All deluxe editions include bonus material, Boy King Trash.

As our rolling Welsh hills are warmed up by the past week’s wonderful weather, it’s not long now ‘til we descend on the glorious Brecon Beacons for reclining in the rays and imbibing inspirational music from this year’s guests!

We’ve kept you waiting, but we think she’s worth the wait.. We’re over the moon to reveal our fourth and final headliner, in the majestical form of Laura Marling, the enchanting folk goddess returns for her third performance at GM. Her legendary performances have always gone down a storm at Green Man and we’re already feeling awestruck imagining her playing new material in her Saturday night set on the Mountain Stage in 2016.

We are very happy to announce that Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros will be joining us at the fourteenth Green Man. With new album ‘PersonA’ imminent – and a stage-hogging 10 members in tow – their big band, beach-licked grooves will be a glorious addition to the (already glorious) Brecon Beacons.

Making a very welcome return are Nottinghamshire veterans Tindersticks (official), whose atmospheric introspections – now 25 years in the game – still sound uniquely their own. Sister act The Unthanks return, too, with kind offerings of soft-lit folk. After rocking the Green Man Boat Party, Slow Club are sure to turn a few heads with their indie pop.

Glitch-rockers SUUNS are booked in to deliver a lesson in head-nodding intensity, with Portishead descended Beak> specialising in intense drone-fuelled thuddery. KEVIN MORBY, with a new album due any minute, will have feet tapping to the beat of his woozy indie, perfect when supping an ale from the Courtyard.
