After Neil Young recorded solo renditions of the 10 songs on his new album “Storytone,” he recorded them all again with live accompaniment from an orchestra and a big band. See the video of Young singing “Tumbleweed” in the studio, alongside the 60-piece orchestra.

The sweeping violins underlayed with gentle pizzicato strings lend a cinematic quality to Young’s lonesome vocals on the song, which has lyrics that seem to celebrate the beauty in ephemeral moments. “Life is full of strange delights/ In the darkness we find lights/ To make our way/ Back home again,” Young sings.
“Storytone” follows “A Letter Home,” a collection of cover tunes Young recorded with Jack White and released on Record Store Day last April. They’re the latest albums in a storied career that has included dozens of releases on his own, with backing band Crazy Horse and also as part of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
“Storytone” came out this week on Warner Bros. Records.
