OF EMPIRES – ” Strange Sensations ” EP

The Brighton-based band Of Empires have been given one of those end-of-year leg-ups to success as winners of MTV’s Brand New Unsigned contest. Their music is a bit glam, a bit Britpop, a bit Stones and a bit Monkeys. Of Empires might not be signed yet, but they would appear to have some weight behind them: they’ve been working with engineer Ben Thackeray (Oasis, Jamie Cullum) and mixmaster Jon Gray (The Kooks, Editors). It’s stomping, slow-motion riff-rock with snarling vocals and terrace-worthy choruses. check out the EP “Stranger Sensations” A 3-track mysticism pulsating in weighty blues rock, worthy of the Black Keys crown” and after a first listen there is no doubt in my view this band is heading for success. The epitome of good old-fashion rock ‘n’ roll but with a current kick.
“The three-track EP, Stranger Sensations, manages to bring together the more traditional elements of early rock ‘n’ roll (just listen to those riffs) as well as managing to keep it sounding relatively now.
