For nearly a decade, Marlana Sheetz has been a core member of L.A. indie-pop band Milo Greene. Today she unveiled the first single from her mononymous solo project Marlana.

“So Bad” is a moody torch song that on the surface is a typical Los Angeles girl-meets-boy story but, the songwriter says, “more accurately represents my relationship with the music business as a whole. It’s unclear whether it’s loved or loathed.” It’s sensual and haunting and notable most for Marlana’s vocals: They’re wraparound.

Director Nicolas Harvard’s video for the song adds a whole new dimension to “So Bad” — Marlana has a certain fixation, which she finally acts on one night in Chinatown. We won’t spoil the ending.

Today I did something that terrifies me. I released a song by myself. As my Milo Greene family, you have changed my life over the years. Thank you for showing up to the shows and listening to the records. Because of you, it gave me the courage to do something like this.
Not every song I write makes a Milo Greene album, but I still have a strong desire to share whats going on inside my head creatively. Here is a song that didn’t make the cut, but now has a life of its own. I hope you enjoy ‘So Bad’, a song about my relationship with the music industry. This video is an ode to Los Angeles and my fascination with death. It took a million favors to pull this off, but I think it was worth it. I hope you guys join me on this adventure. More to come. Thank you for the support! – Marlana

After nearly five years spent on the road, indie pop outfit Milo Greene recently returned to Los Angeles. Though happy to be home again, the act of settling back into their daily lives following such a long period of transience proved to be more difficult than they expected. That challenge of finding normalcy and stability in a career that’s pretty much predicated on the opposite informs the band’s upcoming Never Ender EP, the follow-up to 2015’s Control full-length.

On the latest selection off the EP, “Afraid of Everything”, Milo Greene find themselves surveying the chaotic world around them, attempting to stifle the urge to let doubt take over. Both on a macro and micro level, there’s a lot out there to put anyone off — from the unpredictability of the entertainment industry to an impending US government that’s not only competent but also sympathetic to a Russian dictator . Still, like the life-affirming melodies of the track, the band manages to rise above it all.

‘Afraid Of Everything’ explores the idea that an overwhelmingly uncertain world can still be mediated by clarity and fearlessness,”. On February 24th we will release our new 5-song EP, “Never Ender” courtesy of Nettwerk Music Group. In the meantime, you can listen to a taste here:

MILO GREENE – ” Heartless “

With a new album due out later this month, Milo Greene‘s sound has continued to evolve since the release of their acclaimed debut in 2012. Based out of Los Angeles, they have been previewing their new sound in small doses, releasing a song a month in preparation to the January 27th release of “Control”. The first to be released and most popular of the bunch is the polished and catchy song “White Lies”. Similar to “White Lies” stylistically, Milo Greene release the track  “Heartless”.

Built around a steady drum beat, “Heartless” focuses on the vocals to carry the song as glistening instrumentals set the edge. While the song’s core may remind of their indie roots their use of synths and effects throughout show that they have really come into their own. Showcasing progression with a growing echoing beat, come its finale, “Heatless” will be running circles through your head.
