Jillian Rose Banks , known simply as Banks (often stylized as BANKS), is an American singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California. She releases music under Harvest Records, Good Years Recordings and IAMSOUND Records imprints of the major label Universal Music Group. Banks’ sound has been described as dark R&B and compared to The Weeknd and Aaliyah, although she cites Lauryn Hill and Fiona Apple as her biggest influences. She says that music helps her release her emotions and for that reason kept her music private while she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology. Her vocals have frequently been described as “Aaliyah-like”, in addition to Billboard noting that “her rhapsodic voice possesses a frail vulnerability and recalls singers like Feist and Erykah Badu.

She has toured internationally with The Weeknd and was nominated for the Sound of 2014 award by the BBC and an MTV Brand New Nominee in 2014. On May 3, 2014, Banks was dubbed as an “Artist to Watch”

One of the best albums of 2014,
Jillian Rose relays Banks (Projects) more than some people will ever comprehend of the trauma’s and emotions that females go through in the twisted paths that we face in most modern day relationships,
Listen to the Album and then put the tracks in order and you will feel like it’s something you can correlate your emotions to not just an individual song, as for her voice you will hear the anger, pain and the heart felt sorrow from every song in the album it cut’s whilst also striking a nerve at the same time and to be honest there isn’t that many artists of the new era that purge this much emotion whilst keeping it real

Jillian Rose Banks, known as BANKS, isn’t afraid to carefully use voice as her instrument. She switches easily between low R&B and floaty pop, her vocal range the thread that leads us through the 18 tracks on her debut full length Goddess. BANKS uses her distant, vibrating vocals to tell the common tale of failing relationships and reveals more than seems possible through just one thing—the art of singing. Infinitely cool, her voice scratches at the skin.

BANKS brought together an impressive roster of hip producers to propel the music to atmospheric heights. Shlohmo worked on the album’s stand-out track “Brain,” and Sohn collaborated with the singer on “Waiting Game.” The result is complex, modern and uncontrollably hot. It’s a debut that dances, ebbs, flows, fuzzes and wraps you in low-lit room with a lover you never liked that much.

BANKS – ” Drowning “

BANKS profile continues to rise rapidly with another outstanding track form the forthcoming album Goddess, “I got some dirt on my shoes,” Jillian Banks sings on “Beggin for Thread,” as if she just tracked it in from the graveyard across your new white rug with a c’est la vie shrug. Following several online releases, her debut LP confirms a beguiling, diaristic voice that echoes avant-pop forebears (Aaliyah, Fiona Apple, Kate Bush) and a taste for gloomy, synth-centric productions. On “Someone New,” electronics stripped off, you hear a singer needing more song. But elsewhere, parsing romantic doubt over humming hardware, emotions swell like storm clouds. And when she fully brings the weather – see the f-bombing title track – it’s something to behold.

The name’s Banks, Jillian Banks. Or, if you’re shouting about her like plenty of people seem to be doing; BANKS.
Armed with enviably high cheekbones and a seductive, throaty Los Angeles drawl, Miss Banks is causing a stir with her moody r’n’b, and she knows it. From self-taught keyboard to recording songs using a dictaphone, Jillian’s childhood shoulder-brushings with music were humble. Now she’s being compared to artists including Lauryn Hill and Tracy Chapman – the very women who inspired her to write her own songs in the first place. Not bad.

The 26-year-old’s first attempt at a full-length is intense and straight-talking from the beginning. Goddess is a stand-out: self-assured and laced with sophistication, it certainly doesn’t sound like a debut. Then again, BANKS has been making music for over a decade, which is probably why.

The third single from Banks’ debut album “Goddess.” In this song, Banks laments the energy and effort she put into a relationship with a narcissistic person who took her for granted. She also explains that the relationship is “drowning” her as she continually fights to salvage the wreckage.
