Two Gallants performs “Some Trouble” live in Studio A. Recorded 2/12/15. On February 3rd, the San Francisco based guitar-drum duo Two Gallants are set to release their 5th studio album, We Are Undone, on ATO Records. While singer and guitarist Adam Stephens and drummer Tyson Vogel have stayed true to the two-person format since their acclaimed 2004 debut, The Throes, their sound has evolved considerably over the intervening years. Following 2012’s The Bloom and the Blight, We Are Undone is the band’s second release on ATO. Thematically, the album ranges from songs that attempt to make sense of the dramatically shifting social landscape of their home town, to the illusion of authenticity, impending environmental collapse, and romantic estrangement. Sonically, the thrash blues of songs such as “We Are Undone” and “Some Trouble” is balanced by the austerity of ballads such as “My Man Go” and “There’s So Much I Don’t Know.”

From the new albums “Quartz” and “Quartz Bijou” available now.Just a couple weeks ago, local soul-psych beasts Fly Golden Eagle headlined the first night of the little ol’ Cream’s two-night birthday party at Mercy Lounge and The High Watt. Theirs was a lush, round, crowd-surf-inspiring set that largely featured tunes from their 2011’s totally underrated album Swagger, though there was a bit of new action in there as well. As it turns out, FGE has plenty of new material. As in, loads of it. the rock ‘n’ rollers released Quartz, a record that, according to a press release, “is a 26-song epic, a collection of songs that join together to form a narrative arc” and “lines up with the groundbreaking 1973 film The Holy Mountain.”
Quartz was released by ATO Records — the division of RCA founded by Dave Matthews and home to such acts as Caitlin Rose, Drive-By Truckers, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Old Crow Medicine Show and FGE’s sometime tourmates Alabama Shakes — and apparently, there will also be “a 12-song abbreviated version” titled Quartz Bijou. Fly Golden Eagle is offering a little preview of the record in the form of “Horse’s Mouth,” a groovy, psychedelic sidewinder.
