This is a Weird little video from the bands third album “Omphalic”,Algernon Doll has released recently. The video for the poignant track is a sight to behold, with stock footage and surreal imagery edited together to perfectly capture the tone of the song. The track is taken from their third album Omphalic, released via Struggletown Records.
Algernon Doll’s third album has already picked up a wealth of support, including features, reviews and exclusives from the likes of The of Rock Sound Magazine as well as playing Radio 1’s Big Weekend.
the band plan on recording yet another album, this time with legendary producer Steve Albini.

Spilt Milk Perfume was the first single to be released from Omphalic and is available now. But watch the video on Algernon Doll’s YouTube channel. The band then released Suicide, the video of which was premiered exclusively on The Skinny Blog Site – with the video and the track itself capturing the sweaty, youth infused spirit of grunge, but with an Algernon Doll edge. Omphalic was mastered by Shellac’s Bob Weston, who has production credits on a host of classic records such as Nirvana’s In-Utero, Shipping News, Missions of Burma, Chavez, June of 44, Rachel’s and LCD Soundsystem. The collaboration was a perfect fit creatively, producing an album full of raw angst complimented by catchy, energetic songwriting that tempts the listener back again and again.

Omphalic by Algernon Doll is released via Struggletown Records and can be purchased via BandCamp or you can pick up the vinyl at Struggletown Records’ official site.

Pulling on influences from the likes of Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins and The Jesus Lizard, Algernon Doll‘s first two albums have had a sound reminiscent of early 90’s grunge. “Omphalic “sees Ewan Grant break out from his one man band persona while still continuing to produce the sound that has captured the attention of fans and critics alike.

Mastered by Bob Weston (Shellac) who has production credits on a wide selection of classic records including LCD Soundsystem and Nirvana’s In Utero, “Omphalic” offers listeners a mix of gentle verses and loud choruses with an overall sound that is both earnest and haunting. Up-tempo opener and first single ‘Split Milk Perfume’ showcases Algernon Doll’s sound, while giving the listener an idea about the theme of the record and leaving them wanting more. The whole record is unique as musically as it is vocally, tracks ‘Justine,’ ‘Candy Striped’ and ‘Pink and Blue’ offer a melodic and upbeat sound.

Then there are tracks filled with anger and angst such ‘Tamed,’ ‘Suicide’ and ‘Relate,’ which feature screaming guitars and vocals and a much rawer sound. The contrasts between each track is what keeps the record interesting, engaging and addictive keeping the listener from losing interest. Omphalic is a sublime combination of blaring guitars, memorable hooks and emotional lyrics all of which are brought together in ‘Sweet Nothing.’

Closing tracks ‘Goodbye, Blue Jeans’ and ‘Pheromone’ begin more tenderly than the previous tracks, but even with this softer begin both build in intensity bringing the album to a heartfelt climax.

A compelling album full of honesty, anxiety and passion that travels much deeper than just the lyrics.

Algernon Doll are on one impressive streak. “Omphalic”, the group’s third LP in less than two years, is a fuzzy, noisy, poppy gem of an alternative record. Originally a solo project for frontman Ewan Grant, Algernon Doll is now a three-piece gaining enormous momentum and set to record their fourth LP with legendary audio engineer Steve Albini this month. . They reminded me of Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr, early Husker Du and maybe a bit of Teenage Fanclub … The musical artists split 60% of every Good Pack sale. You can also support Algernon Doll directly on Bandcamp, where you’ll find “Omphalic” on vinyl alongside other merch.
