FLYTE – ” Tough Love “

Posted: July 22, 2023 in MUSIC

Here we go now, deep breath… new song “Tough Love” with the rare and wonderful Laura Marling is out now everywhere. Thank you to Lauren Laverne and BBC6music for the premiere this morning. Our self titled third album is coming out October 27th

You can preorder now. And finally, we are touring around the UK and Ireland this winter and presale for that goes live on Friday. You can get access to the pre-sale by either buying a record or being on our mailing list.

Crooned so delicately you imagine that there must have been dandelion pappus’ in front of the performers that they were hoping not to disturb when playing ‘Tough Love’. There is nothing tough about the track and that is a welcome thing in this gritty modern world. Alas, even though it is floaty, it still manages to build towards a gripping crescendo.

The Rolling Stones “Forty Licks” Originally released in 2002 to commemorate their 40th Anniversary as a band, “Forty Licks” was a huge commercial success, selling over 7 million copies around the world. Widely regarded as their definitive career-spanning best-of compilation, “Forty Licks” is now available to in limited 180-gram black 4LP, housed in a wide-spined gatefold sleeve. Many of the Rolling Stones’ catalogue of albums recorded between 1963 and 1970, largely by the original Jagger/Richards/Jones/Watts/Wyman line-up, are being reissued by ABKCO Records throughout the remainder of 2023 and into early 2024 with vinyl editions of these 16 releases on 180-gram LPs. Some of these titles have been out-of-print as stand-alone vinyl records for the past 37 years.

“Forty Licks”, the album that gathered together fully three dozen of the most enduring and anthemic songs from the group’s peerless career and added four then-new tracks to their incredible story, is to be released for the first time, in a lavish, limited edition four-disc, 180-gram black vinyl version, housed in a wide-spined gatefold sleeve, on July 28.

ABKCO is premiering a new visualizer video for “Gimme Shelter” which features an animated zoetrope of the cake from the “Let It Bleed” cover art.

The “Forty Licks” collection includes 20 (U.S.) Top 10 singles of which 13 broke into the Top 5 and seven going all the way to #1 including “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “Miss You,” “Brown Sugar,” “Paint It, Black,” “Honky Tonk Women,” “Get Off of My Cloud” and “Angie.”

During the 1960s, it was customary for album release versions to differ depending on the territory in which they were released and this was the case with the Stones in that era. Their U.K. label, Decca Records, and U.S. label, London Records, had separate schedules, often utilizing different cover art and different tune stacks for a given title.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary year of ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’, Original Pink Floyd member Roger Waters pays homage with a brand new, full-album re-recording of the timeless original.

Waters says ‘when we recorded the stripped down songs for the lockdown sessions, the 50th anniversary of the release of ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ was looming on the horizon. it occurred to to me that the ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ could well be a suitable candidate for a similar re-working, partly as a tribute to the original work, but also to re-address the political and emotional message of the whole album.

I discussed it with Gus and Sean, and when we’d stopped giggling and shouting ‘you must be ****ing mad’ at one another we decided to take it on. it’s turned out really great and I’m excited for everyone to hear it. it’s not a replacement for the original which, obviously, is irreplaceable. but it is a way for the seventy nine year old man to look back across the intervening fifty years into the eyes of the twenty nine year old and say, to quote a poem of mine about my father, “we did our best, we kept his trust, our dad would have been proud of us”. and also it is a way for me to honoUr a recording that Nick and Rick and Dave and I have every right to be very proud of.’

Hawkwind have shared details of the 50th Anniversary reissue of their thunderous 1973 live album “Space Ritual”, to be released by Cherry Red Records on September 29th.

A Super Deluxe 10CD/Blu-Ray Edition includes a new remaster of the original album, along with new mixes of all three complete concerts recorded on the tour at Liverpool Stadium, Sunderland Locarno and Brixton Sundown, all mixed by Stephen W Tayler.

The set comes with a region-free Blu-Ray disc featuring a 5.1 Surround Sound mix of the album, plus a 68-page illustrated book with new essay and a reproduction of the rare “Space Ritual” poster-format tour programme.

Atomhenge, the home of Hawkwind’s back catalogue, is proud to announce the release of a deluxe 50th Anniversary remixed edition of Hawkwind’s legendary live album “Space Ritual”. Recorded on the band’s UK Tour of December 1972, which followed the release of the band’s recent studio album “Doremi Fasol Latido”. The live show was a continuous performance linked by poetry recitation by Robert Calvert and was a complete audio-visual experience. Featuring the dancers Stacia, Miss Renee and Tony Carrera, the concerts also featured an elaborate light show by famed lighting designer Liquid Len. The Space Ritual tour followed the huge success of the “Silver Machine” single (although the song did not feature in the live set) and three concerts were captured on tape by the Pye Records mobile unit.

The resulting double album was adorned with memorable artwork by designer Barney Bubbles and was a Top Ten hit in the UK upon its release in May 1973. This 50th anniversary 2 CD set features a stunning new mix of the album by Stephen W Tayler, from te original 16-track master tapes. The set includes the complete unedited versions of “Brainstorm” and “Time We Left This World Today” and the encore of “You Shouldn’t Do That”. With a illustrated booklet with new essay this new release is the ultimate tribute to this legendary album.

“You Thought We Left Because The Door Was Open But We Were Waiting Outside.”

The new single from the garage-rock trio of Henry Vargas, Jose Corona and Patrick Juarez is “The Way You Talk,” co-produced with Kelwin Hernandez, featuring their characteristically bristling guitars, staccato beats and vocals with a hint of acidic detachment in tracing the arc of a relationship circling the drain.

AC/DC – The Ultimate Music Guide

Hells bells! In the run up to the band’s 50th anniversary, we present the Ultimate Music Guide to the world’s most unyielding rock band: AC/DC. Fashions couldn’t change them. Death couldn’t stop them.

Another legend from the past is being celebrated. Singer songwriter band leader Leon Russell  the brilliant songwriter and musician who played, wrote or produced over 400 recordings with artists including Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones and Elton John is celebrated on a new album called “A Song For Leon”Artists covering Leon’s songs on this new record include Bootsy Collins, Pixies, Orville Peck, Nathaniel Rateliff and Margo Price. Here is the latter’s version of Leon Russell’s “Strangers in a Strange Land” along with the original

Among those contributing covers of Leon Russell songs are Margo Price, Pixies, Orville Peck, Hiss Golden Messenger and US Girls . Hear Price’s take on “Stranger In A Strange Land”

“I’ve always loved Leon Russell’s vibe and approach to music and life in general,” says Price. “I had the pleasure of briefly meeting him at a show many years ago in the hallway. I always remember what he said during the live interview that day, which was that ‘It was his job to misinform the press.’ He was an old man at the time, but I’ll never forget how mischievous he seemed.

“After my band and I cut “Stranger In A Strange Land”, we decided to perform it live at many shows. The monologue in the middle is my favourite. It still seems absolutely pertinent, and its subject still matters today. He’s talking about the afterlife and equality and goes off about starting a new race where we all just learn to love each other. We can all learn a thing of two from Leon Russell.”

Leon Russell tribute album, “A Song For Leon“, will be released by Primary Wave Music on September 8th.

MAMALARKY – ” Audiotree Live “

Posted: July 20, 2023 in MUSIC

Los Angeles art rock band Mamalarky makes music for sunny summer days spent in swimming holes participating in nature’s aquatic ballet. When the band broke out with their debut EP ‘Fundamental Thrive Hive,’ in 2018, the indie quartet’s dynamic fusion of quirk and melody fit right in alongside peers like Wombo, Floatie, and Cherry Glazerr. With the release of their 2022 album ‘Pocket Fantasy,’ Mamalarky made it clear they’re a band defining its era in real time.

The band’s powerful sound is a diamond-like refraction of dream pop, post-2000s psychedelia, Nintendocore, math rock, jazz fusion, and freak folk. Check out Mamalarky on Audiotree Live! Recorded on March 9th, 2023 in Chicago, IL.
