We first crossed paths over ten years ago in a New York cafe, though neither of us knew it at the time. Meg was at a musical crossroads and had just agreed to join Kevin Morby’s band, excited and ready to talk the ear off whoever would listen, including the barista who, it turns out, was Emile. He was working there while navigating his own musical crossroads between playing in a band and composing more seriously.
Years later, we reconnected in Los Angeles through mutual friends. The moment we started sharing our works in progress, it was clear we were musically kindred, drawn to the same harmonic intricacies and emotionally resonant arrangements. It was only then that our chance encounter a decade prior came back to us — it all felt very aligned.
In the years since, we’ve recorded music and performed live together a handful of times. “Your Lemon” is the culmination of that relationship — something tangible and official: three songs, one from each of our catalogs and a cover of Ani DiFranco’s “Joyful Girl.” We’re both inspired by what we were able to create and excited for it to be out in the world.
