Liverpool indie rock songwriter Zuzu combines her influences from gaming and comic book culture into her music, and today she releases new single “Timing” which paints a vivid picture of the greatest ever romance that never was.

“This song is about what could have been – meeting someone you have an instant connection with but the timing was never right. It’s about those lonely late nights / early mornings when the sun is rising and that person creeps into your mind. You wonder where they are, if they’re thinking of you too. I wanted to capture the nostalgic but also melancholy feeling brought on by those sad longing thoughts for somebody you loved.”

The first single off my debut album is coming out this Friday and is available to pre-save now! It’s called ‘Timing’ and I’m beyond excited to share it with everyone.

This song is the oldest on the album but I’ve never had a version of it that felt right until now. It’s been with me throughout a lot of ups and downs in my life and felt like the natural place to start. It’s about wondering what could have been, meeting the right person at the wrong time.

Kurran and I recorded this track here in our studio in Birkenhead with some of our best friends in the world. I feel so lucky to be doing all this after the year and a half we’ve all had. You guys have kept me going at moments when I felt like I couldn’t anymore and I’ve got so much love and admiration for you all holding on throughout the chaos too. I can’t wait to snuggle you again, I’ve got lots of love dates coming soon I promise!

Rising star Zuzu plays support for Courteeners when they play a huge homecoming outdoor show at Manchester Emirates Old Trafford on Saturday 25th of September. Plus, you can see her making appearances at 110 Above Festival and NEIGHBOURHOOD WEEKENDER!

“Timing” Planet Z Records Released on: 11th June 2021.
