The history of the New York Dolls is rife with tragedy and triumph. This documentary goes beyond that, to explore the life of bassist Arthur “Killer” Kane after the New York Dolls broke up. This follows the typical sad rock star story of drugs, alcohol, loneliness, and poverty, but with a very odd twist. Arthur converted to the Church of Latter-Day Saints.
The story picks up as Arthur, living the quiet life among people with no idea about his prior profession, prepares for a reunion gig with the New York Dolls. The film exposes some of the inner turmoil that tore the Dolls apart. This is an intriguing film, at the very least, and a must-watch for any fan of the New York Dolls.
