Not sure what is in the over water there presently, but four-piece Sprints are our latest brilliant Dublin discovery joining the likes of Fontaines D.C., The Murder Capital, Girl Band and Silverbacks. They combine pulsating riffs with swelling drums and emotive lyricism. Taking elements from post-punk and beyond they’re a band best seen live and in their element. “Relentless drumming, punky vocal melodies and overdriven bass tones steer the song. When the rhythm guitar comes into the mix everything is tied up nicely, letting that inner frustration burst out. It’s a perfectly written track, allowing the rhythmic ebb and flow to draw your attention from start to finish”
We missed early single “Kissing Practice”, but are loving this new track “The Cheek”, It’s a raw, raucous and bass fuelled single with post-punk and alt-rock influences. Laced with sarcasm, the song tackles sexuality head on. Drawing influence from the likes of Sonic Youth, Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, The Strokes and LCD Soundsystem – there is a boisterous, energetic and retro feel to what they do but very much sounding as fresh and exciting as their local peers.
