Ty Segall has shared his cover of the Spencer Davis Group’s “I’m A Man” off his forthcoming covers album Fudge Sandwich, out October. 26th through In The Red Records. The album features covers of songs from Amon Düül II, John Lennon, Sparks, War, Funkadelic, Rudimentary Peni, Grateful Dead and more.
“I’m A Man” finds Segall wearing his influences on his sleeve. One can easily trace the L.A. musician’s style back to the raucous beat-rock of Spencer Davis and his protgee Steve Winwood, and Segall seems to know that he’s treading on hallowed ground. The 1966 original is basically unchanged here, save for a fresh coat of the fuzz that Segall is famous for.
The album continues Segall’s penchant for fast-paced release cycles. Fudge Sandwich is his third release of 2018 alone, following January’s Freedom’s Goblin and July’s White Fence collaboration Joy. Fudge Sandwich’s release comes in the middle of Segall’s solo acoustic tour. Listen to “I’m A Man”
