London quartet Marine are set to head out today on what they’ve dubbed the Storybook Tour, a collection of live dates many of which are set to take place in book shops and comic stores around the country. To celebrate the occasion, the band have also shared the video for new single Rapunzel, the visuals to which are inspired by “Elvis Presley, the Spice Girls and Bulgarian folk dance.”
Marine describe themselves as, “‘Fable Electric’, a genre all their own, combining their fascination of the underworld, Seal demons, mighty Kraken, werewolves, witches and gods…. even questioning the very nature of storytelling itself.” Which is all very confusing sounding, but thankfully the aural experience is less complex, there are nods to the folkier end of Warpaint’s output, or a more rural take on PINS bewitching, girl gang harmonies. We’re not entirely they’re not trying to recruit everyone into some sort of cult/occult, but if it sounds this good, we might not take much persuading.
A story about liberating yourself from repetition! Our little homage to magic, independence, and the original story of Rapunzel who started her life as a humble enchanted lettuce…
