London’s Big Deal return with their first new track since the release of their second LP, “Veronica” is lifted from their as of yet forthcoming third album , Last summer Big Deal released a stunning second album, “June Gloom” (via Mute Records). They took the spare, largely acoustic template from debut record, Lights Out, and beefed up their heart-achingly gorgeous songs with a full band and heaps of distortion. It proved that made up London-born Alice Costelloe and California’s Kacey Underwood had more in them than the uncomfortable hush of “Talk” and “Homework”: they could really—excuse the phrase—rock out. Take those boomy drums and layered vocals of “Dream Machines” as evidence.
“Veronica” is premiering above, and it’s their first song off their forthcoming third full length album release. The 90s fuzz is still in place, the tugging melancholy as they sing, “You get the best of it all…,”the song packs all the power of first love. or is this a break up song? Are they singing about Veronica from Heathers? Did they both date Veronica and now she’s ditched them and run away Who knows, but the slow build and wig out just after the four minute mark is an unexpected thrill.
