Armed with a stunning, haunting voice that drips a melancholia, sex and a dangerous beauty  The New Southern Electrikk could be among the best new bands of 2015. This is this is the perfect version of the Gun Club’s stark and ghost like Mother Earth and dripping with emotion and a spectral atmosphere from the Manchester based band. Local singer with the emotion drenched blues voice of the angels, Monica Ward has teamed up with the guys from The Paris Angels.  A dark, sultry cover version of Mother Of Earth by The Gun Club. The band say it’s only a demo but it sounds pretty done to me. Singer Monica Ward has got one of those voices and the band, former Paris Angels amongst them, cook up a reverb laden stew. Southern gothic via east Manchester. More please.

The New Southern Electrikk cannot be easily categorised.  inspiration from Psychedelia, Krautrock and Post-Punk, the band craft dark, mesmerisingly beautiful melodies driven by grinding, sexy undertones. Monica Ward’s versatile vocals can be as ethereal as they are deep and soulful; capturing her audience in the palm of her hand with a voice that is sinister yet alluring.

Zach Davies’ flowing guitar shimmers over Steven Tajti’s gritty, throbbing basslines with Rikki Turner’s keys and backing vocals providing a darker edge. Jim Correy’s drumming is brooding and purposeful giving The New Southern Electrikk a solid base on which to build soundscapes that are visceral yet sultry.

The band enter the studio to record a double A side single at the end of the month, with work beginning on a debut album in the new year, but they’re already receiving a huge amount of attention. Less than twenty-four hours after releasing their first demo online, a cover of The Gun Club’s ‘Mother of Earth’, two of the UK’s most respected producers have shown interest in working with The New Southern Electrikk, and Evan Dando of The Lemonheads has declared himself a fan.
