Lyla Foy has premiered her ethereal new video for ‘River’ . Foy described the concept of the video: “In a perfect world my music would always be heard with a visual element, especially film or something animated. We wanted to make a minimal but beautiful moving image which would enhance the song without crushing your imagination.”.
It’s a timely release as she’s now on her US tour, which includes an appearance at CMJ Music Festival on Saturday the 17th for Flower Bookings showcase. The new EP titled UMi spans between the atmospheric He Is Lost and River to the rousing musical arrangements and expectant melodies of Glow In The Dark and Tiger to create a detailed insight into Lyla’s Foys new material.
UMi is an abbreviation of Ursa Minor, a constellation in the northern sky also known as Smaller She-Bear or Little Bear. The collection of songs reflects night time and is a direct contrast to Lyla’s Sub-Pop debut “Mirrors The Sky”, released in March 2014, whose image is daytime and daylight. The EP will be released digitally on 2nd October and vinyl copies, featuring an exclusive bonus track Blue Door. “Foy’s songs are both lush and low-key, intimate and surprisingly intricate. She layers beats generously but carefully, alternating between buoyant and bittersweet”
“it’s gentle, delicate stuff somewhere between folk and dream pop.”—Brooklyn Vegan
