Irish singer-songwriter James Vincent McMorrow’s latest album, True Care, is a prime example of an artist bearing their soul in their work. The record, available digitally now, is not out physically until July 28th, but you can now watch the music video for “Pink Salt Lake,” a highlight of the record.

The footage from the video was actually shot by McMorrow’s wife at a farm in Texas during the recording of his previous  album “Post Tropical” McMorrow often writes music to visual material, and, while watching the grainy video of restless animals, he wrote the piano line for “Pink Salt Lake.” He then looped back around to the video and the piano line during the recording of True Care and finished the song to be what you hear now. “That’s where this song came from, literally from the heart of the footage,” McMorrow explains.

Last week at a show in Dublin, and the day before this new album came out, we played it from start to finish in front of a crowd who’d won tickets, but had no clue what to expect, they’d never heard the songs before. No one had. Didn’t dawn on my until I walked out on stage that no one knew what was going to happen…. including me. I was so nervous to begin. Then we got to this song, it’s called “National”, and it all just clicked and made sense.

If you want to watch the full show from Dlight Studio Dublin it’s available to see on my FB page. Over the summer we will be performing a handful of shows where we begin by playing the new record from start to finish, just like the show last week. Then in the second half of the night we’ll play a full set of songs drawn from the rest of my career to date. I can’t think of a better way to share this record with everyone than to do it like this. Those tour dates are on my website.
