The Michigan Rattlers, are a new find and am I grateful for that. Consisting of Graham Young and Adam Reed, the duo are wonderful storytellers. The fact that those stories are told with some rocking Americana flavor is all the better.
“Sweet Diane” feels like an Jason Isbell tune. The story of a widow finding new love is so simple in its premise but they just knock it out of the park. “Illinois Sky” is the story of a protagonist who leaves Illinois for the West Coast. “Strain of Cancer”, a song some from the perspective of a jilted ex has the lyrical quality of a Cooley tune,
The only complaint about the EP is that it is only five tunes.
