Coldplay are releasing a new album, “Everyday Life”, on November 22nd via Parlophone/Atlantic and this week they shared its first two singles: “Orphans” and “Arabesque.” The album was announced via postcards sent to fans and has been touted as an experimental double album, with one side titled “Sunrise” and the other “Sunset.” “Orphans” is a bit Coldplay-by-numbers, but “Arabesque” is much more interesting. It’s nearly six minutes long and has an Afrobeat vibe, which makes sense considering Fela Kuti and is band contribute horns to it (it also features Stromae). If the rest of the album sounds more like “Arabesque” than “Orphans” then it could turn out to be pretty experimental by Coldplay standards.

We’ll have to wait and see. But for now “Arabesque” is one of their coolest, most interesting songs the band has released in years.“Orphans” and “Arabesque” are available now on a seven-inch single via Third Man. Coldplay will be performing on Saturday Night Livefor the sixth time on November 2nd.

The album’s cover art is “based around a 1919 photo of guitarist Jonny Buckland’s great-grandfather’s band.”

Coldplay released their last album, their seventh, A Head Full of Dreams, back in December 2015 via Parlophone/Atlantic and released a follow-up EP, Kaleidoscope EP, in July 2017,

We are very excited to report that Coldplay’s eighth album, Everyday Life, will be released on Friday, November 22 on CD, vinyl, cassette and digital formats. The 53-minute double album is divided into two halves, Sunrise and Sunset. The album’s cover image is based around a 1919 photo of Jonny’s great-grandfather’s band.

Born out of the ashes of The Firebird Band, comes Sunset, the newly-formed two-piece band featuring Chris Broach of BRAID and The Firebird Band and Steve Znavor of The Firebird Band and Life At Sea. While its forthcoming debut album (which will see a 2017 release) started out as a new record for The Firebird Band, Znavor and Broach decided to put the past to bed and begin fresh with this new body of work that takes the best parts of New Wave, electro-pop & indie and wraps it underneath a shiny new moniker.

“National Monument,” the first piece of music being released from the band’s debut album that was produced, recorded, and mixed by Will Yip (Nothing, Circa Survive, Pity Sex) at Studio 4. With his immediately recognizable vocals over lush, danceable pop, “National Monument” is a fresh and impressive first offering with a dark Halloween-themed video (which pays homage to Poltergeist and Stranger Things, among other things) to complement.

“The thing about this band is that Steve and I share a very similar musical aesthetic – and we approach this band the same way with what we’re trying to achieve,” said Broach about the process of writing these new songs and his longstanding creative relationship with Znavor. “This music is where the real me sits – I’m able to express myself in the way that I want to, the way that I mean to, and together we’re able to explore new ideas without being held to some standard of what someone might expect.”

Sunset’s “National Monument” is the first single off the forthcoming new album (2017).

Seattle’s surf-pop trio Tangerine have this week shared the video to their latest single, Sunset. The track is lifted from their most recent EP, Sugar Teeth, which came out at the start of the year on Swoon Records. The EP explored a world of chaotic relationships and fading friendships and took influences from artists as diverse as The Strokes, Charlie XCX and The Velvet Underground.

Tangerine are led by sisters, Marika & Miro Justad, and if Sunset is anything to go by their vocal chemistry is key to their sound. The song is a light-hearted jaunt through surf-pop and garage-rock guitar twiddling; on top of that sit sweet, almost country vocals, that nod to the likes of Slow Club or She & Him.
