Robert Johnson born this day in 1911 in Hazlehurst Mississippi and died August 16th 1938, the American Blues legend and King of the Delta Blues, displayed amazing songwriting, guitar skills and vocals. His landmark recordings between 1936-1937 have heavily captivated, inspired and influenced many generations of musician’s since. His poorly documented earlier life and death at the age of 27,Son House had met commenting he was just a boy who could play competent harmonica but a bad guitarist Johnson moved around the Mississippi area crafting and learning the guitar style of Son House and Isiah Zinnerman making him a legend but at the time he had no commercial success. Playing in Juke Street joints saturday night dances and street corners, Clapton said that he was the most important Blues guitar and singer that ever lived his guitar mastery and vocal style and including the myth that he had sold his soul to the devil to achieve commercial success in his lifetime. It was not until 1961 that his songs reached a wider audience with the release of the album “King Of The Delta Blues”. Johnson cause of death was reported to be from a poisoned Bottle of whiskey given to him by a jealous husband of a wife Johnson had been flirting with.
