DAWES – ” Paste Session “

Posted: December 22, 2024 in MUSIC

Among our favourite Angelenos, Dawes. Brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith dropped by with another set of Goldsmith brothers—Taylor’s two sons. The boys enjoyed the music as much as we did and couldn’t help but dance both on- and off-camera. The Goldsmiths played three songs from their new album “Oh Brother”, their first release as a duo, starting with “House Parties.” The song celebrates the joy of local music with new friends over arena shows with strangers. The harmonies hit as hard as the lyrics, as the brothers have been singing together since before they understood what harmonies were.

The second song “Mr. Los Angeles” lampoon’s the music business world, even though Taylor’s heart will always be with his city. Both of Taylor’s and Griffin’s families have settled in the Pasadena area at the foot of the mountains and are deeply rooted in L.A. Taylor played the final song solo, the intimate “Surprise!” It was a lovely way to close the band’s latest Paste Session. I’m not sure we’ve recorded any band more times over the last decade and a half.

Taylor and Griffin’s father played in bands around the city when they were growing up, and that love of music seems destined for yet another generation with the young Ossie volunteering to sing some Tom Petty between songs (to be fair, that love of music might also come from his mother, Mandy Moore).

Recorded live at Marquez Clásico in Los Angeles on October 8th, 2024 Taylor Goldsmith – Vocal, guitar Griffin Goldsmith – Vocal
