To coincide with the start of their North American tour next week, its appropriate to fully introduce you to a couple of tracks they will be playing out on the road.
The first track ‘Tired As Fuck’ was a song written in the midst of a relationship breaking down. Lamenting (among other things) the lack of some sort of guidance in that kind of situation, but also accepting and resigning yourself to the fact that you have to soldier on. Keep going. There is no helping hand.
The second track ‘Train Tracks’ is the beginning of something new and how confusing and difficult that can be when you’re really just as clueless as anyone! The two tracks bookend each other in that respect.
We fell down an Andy Warhol hole (a Warhole if you will) recently and particularly loved his series of screentests/moving portraits. They’re just a static shot of a subject staring at the camera. It’s amazing how compelling that is. Just looking at someone for 20 minutes or so. That was a massive inspiration for this video. We also bought an old over head projector and really wanted to incorporate it and use it to project these weird shapes on Camilla’s face.
We wanted to not shy away from making the process obvious to people either. You see Jess adjusting Camilla’s hair, and Camilla talking to Dan (who was filming). We haven’t edited it to clean it up, because we find the unedited bits are often the most interesting.
We hope you enjoy the tracks and the video, and we can’t wait to see some of you on the road this year. To everyone back home in the UK and in Europe, fear not; we’ll be playing Forbidden Fruit Festival in Dublin on 5 June, and Bushstock in London on 10 June. More UK/EU dates will be announced in the near future… Watch this space!
Love,
E, J, & C The Staves
