Plastic Mermaids are blessed an innate sense of ambition.
While some new bands are content to sit within their pigeon-holes, this lot want to surge ahead, fuelled by an insatiable sense of curiosity. With their new EP incoming Plastic Mermaids decided to pack up and head to the Isle of Wight, shooting a lavish live session at St Catherines church on the south side of the island.
Joined by a cast of friends and new collaborators, the band breezed through their new material, giving it a fresh arrangement as they went. Check out their new video for ‘Paris Milkshake’, and it’s a bold, beautiful rendering of material that betrays a quite open, honest sensibility.
Plastic Mermaids commented: “It was cool to do this one live, the trickiest bit was the string outro with on the record we’d layered up over time so getting the seven string players to nail all the portamento together was a good challenge for them! Also really nice to get the Dulcitone out, made in Glasgow in 1890 its like the 19th century answer to the Fender Rhodes.”
