Deer Shed Festival 7 Comedy in the Bigtop
Edinburgh Festival Award Winner and Time Out Critic’s Choice, Mark Watson, heads up one of the most exciting Deer Shed Festivalcomedy line-ups in its seven year history. With the focus firmly back on traditional stand-up for 2016, Mark Watson leads Justin Moorhouse, Tony Jameson and an as yet unannounced special guest in an evening of entertainment, fun, and hilarity while the afternoon will play host to comedy favourites Rob Deering, Mrs Barbara Nice, and Tiernan Douieb. With 80% of tickets for Deer Shed Festival 7 already sold we think this comedy line-up should tempt a few more of you!!
Mark Watson is one of the most talked-about British comedians to emerge. Not only a regular on television with appearances on Mock the Week, Have I Got News for You?, and Would I lie to you?, Mark was also the star of the BBC Radio 4 show Mark Watson Makes The World Substantially Better which aired on BBC Radio 4 and also starred Tim Minchin and Tim Key. Not only an excellent stand-up comedian, Mark has written four novels: Bullet Points (2004), A Light-Hearted Look At Murder (2007), Eleven (2010), and The Knot (2012).
Making a very welcome return to the Deer shed Festival is Mancunian comedian Justin Moorhouse. Justin has had many a successful run at Edinburgh Fringe and has taken his comedy all over the world charming audiences as far as Australia, China, Japan, and The Middle East. He’s also a familiar face on TV having appeared on Live At The Apollo, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Road Show and Corronation Street! He was also crowned The Champion of Champions on BBC 5Live’s Fighting Talk which is no mean feat. At Deer Shed Festival, he’ll stick to stand-up as he opens the evening show.
Hailing from the North East, Tony Jameson is an ex-college lecturer who found his calling 2008 when he stepped into the comedy circuit. He’s been to Edinburgh Fringe four times with his 2015 show Football Manager Ruined My Life gaining him notoriety. He has since taken his tour around the country entertaining audiences with carefully woven tales of the everyday and fun riffs from his manchild lifestyle. With his quick wit and hilarious anecdotes, Tony is guaranteed to light up a room … or a Bigtop.
The afternoon’s comedy will star the excellent musical comedian Rob Deering who will be using a guitar, a loop pedal and his voice to create impressive rock and pop soundscapes; he’ll also do jokes, of course. Since starting out in 2000, Rob has become one of the most in-demand comics on the circuit and has performed across the world. He has appeared on any number of Radio and TV shows including most recently winning Celebrity Mastermind on BBC One. (A feat he shares with Justin Moorhouse and Mark Watson).
Legendary Mrs Barbara Nice will be returning to the Deer Shed Festival with more tales of being a middle-aged Stockport housewife and mother of five kids. Barbara, aka Janice Connolly, is perhaps best known for her association with Bolton’s Peter Kay and her roles in Phoenix Nights and That Peter Kay Thing though her brilliantly hilarious stand-up has made her a firm favourite of the comedy circuit.
Tiernan Douieb will be opening the comedy at the Bigtop with his silly stand-up made for kids and bigger kids. Gaining endless success on the comedy circuit and the regular host of the Comedy Club 4 Kids, his charming style will have you hooked from the second he walks onstage. Our younger audience might recognise Tiernan from CBBC shows The Slammer or as BBC’s Dick & Dom’s warm-up.
We’re thrilled to have such a strong comedy line-up joining us at the Deer Shed Festival this year. There’s no doubting the quality and brilliance of these comedians each of whom is guaranteed to have you rolling with laughter. Second headliner is on the way soon.
