This will give a warmer feeling for a Monday morning. Philadelphian rockers The Districts, released a moving cover of “Lover Lover Lover” by Leonard Cohen, from his 1974 album New Skin for the Old Ceremony. “Lover Lover Lover” gets a worthy re-imagining thanks to The Districts. The folksy-pop of the original is gone, instead replaced by a swelling rock sound made all the more heart-wrenching by Rob Grotes vocals.
In its original form, the song is a swinging and cinematic bit of European folk-pop vaguely reminiscent of Serge Gainsbourg. The Districts, of course, District-i-fied it with a dynamic rise and fall from an aching open to an explosive fireworks finale of loud guitars and powerful rhythms.
Recorded one of our favorite Leonard Cohen songs.
