Born from the thrumming heartland of inland Victoria, the Bendigo four-piece call on the nostalgic sound of artists such as Bruce Springsteen and The War on Drugs to tell the stories of today. Their sense of cultural transcendence has earned them many accolades, an opening slot at Bendigo’s Groovin’ The Moo, and a tour with fellow Aussie/Americana enthusiasts Gang of Youths. Their latest single ‘Grand Old Flags‘ and the accompanying video is a microcosm of the band’s mission itself – nostalgic and humble with a charmingly innovative DIY aesthetic. Each frame is filled to the brim with 80’s and 90’s cultural references, beautifully appropriated and revived through their poetic lyricism.

Grand Old Flags, which I’m featuring here, is a great song. It’s the lead single off their upcoming debut album. It is restless dreaminess with elements of Bruce Springsteen, The War on Drugs, and Lord Huron, who are three of my favorites. In fact, when you can merge those three while being unique, you know that you are listening to something special.

The album will be called Greater City, Greater Love and is due out later this year. Check out their Facebook page and enjoy Grand Old Flags.
